    Quansheng UV K5

We'll see. I am able to bring up a couple local 1.25m repeaters from the house with a larger antenna, even at 1/4W.

    HT Battery Cross Reference List

Has anyone found a battery that works with the Radio Shack 21-1679? It's similar to the others, but the ears are a bit wider and taller. I've tried a bunch of different batteries that I have for my Magnum 1012, ADI HT-204, etc.

    Quansheng UV K5

Just ordered 2 of those, with speaker mics, programming cables, and the 1/4 wave antennas for $77.38 including tax on amazon. There are several 1.25m repeaters around here, and the 1/4W I'm getting out of my K5 ain't gonna be much use. :D

Might have to give this a try on mine... well, maybe part of it. Does this affect deviation on FM at all?

Just make sure it's the 40 wire cable, not the 80 wire... ;)

    Silent Night "Scanner" Prop

Anyone else see the CB they used as a prop for a police scanner in Silent Night? They were obviously keying the radio with no antenna attached as the S/RF needle was jumping and the ANT warning light was blinking. My XYL and I actually laughed, quite loudly, in the theatre when we saw that. :D

Rarest cb / export you’ve owned

Oh, and there's the little 2 channel HT that my dad had a pair of when I was a kid. I was able to find a pair like it on ebay a while back. The speaker is also the mic. They have a front red PTT, A/B switch, volume and squelch on the left side, a call button, battery LED, telescopic antenna...

    Question on FRS versus GMRS....

And since the rule change, the former FRS/GMRS radios are now reclassified as FRS radios. 2W of TX power is OK on channels 1-7 and 15-22. 8-14 are still .5W. The other difference is that you can't do repeater splits on FRS radios, so channels 15-22 are simplex only for FRS.

Rarest cb / export you’ve owned

It probably wasn't that rare, but I never saw the same model again. It was a Sears Roadtalker 40, that basically was built on the Cobra 29/Uniden PC76 chassis/board. I successfully installed a 40up/down channel kit, echo board, and talkback in it for the Cobra/Uniden radios. Was decent.

    Ammo Can Portable Radio

I need to think about doing something like that. I bought one of those slipseater boxes a long time ago at a truck stop on clearance. It's designed for a CB and car stereo, but I'm sure I can repurpose it for a CB/10m rig and a dual band ham radio. Gotta go down in the basement and see if I...

Weirdness in a microphone tester...... (the continued adventures...)

Yeah, mine needs the pot cleaned every year or so. I try to use the tuner cleaner with the silicone in it, seems to last longer.

Did you look at the link to Thingiverse? That looks like that mic has the same base as the Turner. I think that guy designed replacement parts for it.
