Has anyone found a battery that works with the Radio Shack 21-1679? It's similar to the others, but the ears are a bit wider and taller. I've tried a bunch of different batteries that I have for my Magnum 1012, ADI HT-204, etc.
Just ordered 2 of those, with speaker mics, programming cables, and the 1/4 wave antennas for $77.38 including tax on amazon. There are several 1.25m repeaters around here, and the 1/4W I'm getting out of my K5 ain't gonna be much use. :D
Anyone else see the CB they used as a prop for a police scanner in Silent Night? They were obviously keying the radio with no antenna attached as the S/RF needle was jumping and the ANT warning light was blinking.
My XYL and I actually laughed, quite loudly, in the theatre when we saw that. :D
Oh, and there's the little 2 channel HT that my dad had a pair of when I was a kid. I was able to find a pair like it on ebay a while back. The speaker is also the mic. They have a front red PTT, A/B switch, volume and squelch on the left side, a call button, battery LED, telescopic antenna...
And since the rule change, the former FRS/GMRS radios are now reclassified as FRS radios. 2W of TX power is OK on channels 1-7 and 15-22. 8-14 are still .5W. The other difference is that you can't do repeater splits on FRS radios, so channels 15-22 are simplex only for FRS.
It probably wasn't that rare, but I never saw the same model again. It was a Sears Roadtalker 40, that basically was built on the Cobra 29/Uniden PC76 chassis/board. I successfully installed a 40up/down channel kit, echo board, and talkback in it for the Cobra/Uniden radios. Was decent.
