Do you mean.... you turn the radio off because the final is getting hot?
I'm not sure how much you know so if I misinterperate what you mean please excuse me.
The final in any radio will always get hot.... its part of rf amp efficency. If this radio is a straight AM radio the rf amp in it...
Yea... those workman copies are a decent transistor.
I should check what they are selling for on ebay.. I wonder if the guys at PSF tech have them at their ebay store..
Zumlin.... what are they selling for on ebay?
I really don't think you did a crap job at all. Its looks really good to me. If you want to build an amp, you can do it without alot of test equiptment. There are lots of small basic amps you can build. The biggest thing for amps is a good rf meter that will show reflected watts and a dummy...
You could use a 2sc1969 or one of the substitutes out there... I prefer the 1969 over the erf2030.... but the erf2030 is another one you can use. The problem with the erf2030is when you are NOT running an amp..... the carrier power is a little on the low side. With the 1969 you can get more...
No it should not effect freq. at all. The fact is, when you get alot of locals on ssb all at once, its never going to be perfect. Its real hard for everyone to get "right on" freq. Your going to have some lower than others.
There is always someone out there that will complain that your off...
I've put in a couple of different types of stingers and added in rf amp stages in 29's. I think I'm echoing what everyone else already said... don't do it unless you have too. Like if your a trucker and can't run an amp. Even then your better off with a small amp you can bolt to the back or...
Nothing wrong with retuning by changing inductance. Bigred obviously doesn't do alot of radio work......not yet at least...and you have to start somewhere. I think he is off to a good start or perhaps even beyond the starting point.
Changing inductance is a good place to start for power tune...
You can most likly find a diagram on line that shows how toploaded, centerloaded and base loaded antennas radiate.
The base loaded is the worst of the 3 and the top loaded is the best. So, right there the 10k had an advantage with TX. The other thing the 10k has going for it is the sheer size...
I guess your looking for another CB and not export/10 meter since this is in the cb section.
Galaxy 959's are decent... I prefer tham over cobra 148's but a 148 is another decent one.
The list goes on and on and you can get alot of recommendations. The best thing to do is look around at all...
