flat-stock-, as opposed to round-coil mobile antenna....

I don't know if anyone said this already.... but most likly the most noticable difference you might see between a wide flat coil design and and round stock is bandwidth. Anytime you increase surface area ( not length) you increase bandwidth. This will yeild a better match over more channels...

Convince me to keep my HR2600

With a chipswitch you get options where the radio can run "like" a 2510 or 2600. Theres alot of settings like that with chipswitch. Personally, I find them all a pain in the a$$. I just like a clean radio where I can adjust the freqs and go where I need to..... the lowest freq I need is maybey...

Convince me to keep my HR2600

I prefer a 2510 over the 2600 chipswitched. I like a bone stock ( I mean no audio or rf mods) 2510 without the chipswitch or any other mods. I have a chipswitched 2600 right now that I have been using.... it had an upgraded final in it but I ended up taking it out an putting it back to stock...

    Question about modding

You most likly can realign it yourself an get it pretty decent... at least alot better than it is now. The main things you will need is a second radio... perferably a handheld and a tuning screwdriver. A tuning screwdriver is just a small screwdriver thats made of plastic. ( there are a few...

    Question about modding

You put out alot of pretty good advice yourself..... and your not afraid to experiment and try things out. You've done alot with swing kits and stuff... I just didn't want you getting the wrong idea.

    Question about modding

Don't bother with swing kits unless your planning on running an amp. Sorry Switchkit... I know you really like swingkits.... on't take it personal. Anyhow, a swing kit does keep all the carrier power an increase the swing. It works backwards.... it will give you more swing.... but it does it...

Uniden PC 78XL (same as Cobra 29) Noise Blanker Problem

AC5CH..... go to the cb tricks website an check out the members section. I believe I seen it at one of the members websites. Its easy to build.... you just have to get the relay opening and closing at a fairly fast frequency. Its more than likly just a diode, switching transistor, battery...

Uniden PC 78XL (same as Cobra 29) Noise Blanker Problem

Sounds like you have some real bad noise in your area... unfortunatly if the noise is that bad I would'nt count on a noise blanker in a Uniden am radio to do too much. The only real way to cut alot of that down is to go with processing..... I'm actually surprised you havent tried it yet. A...

Uniden PC 78XL (same as Cobra 29) Noise Blanker Problem

You can't compare a Furuno ssb marine radio phone to a Uniden 68...... huge difference in quality. Even your superstar.... thats a dual conversion reciever. Better reciever..... better signal to noise ratio.... the better the noise blanker will work. BUT... regardless, you should hear...

    cobra 29 ltd nw classic

Check your mic first... sounds like the radio is not keying. First thing to try is to jump the tx and ground pins on the mic jack.... ground is pin 1.... tx is pin 3... they are diagnal from each other. Anyhow take a screwdriver or anything you have to jump these 2 pins together..... when these...

    148 5 to 4 pin mic?

A 4 pin mic jack has the same thing a 5 pinn does. There is a TX wire... RX wire... Audio Wire... Ground wire... and Sheild. The difference between a Cobra 4 pin jack and a cobra 5 pin jack is on a 5 pin jack there is a separate pin for sheild wire and ground wire..... On a 4 pin Jack the...

    1446 in a cobra 29?

The pictures supplied are of a pill mod but NOT in a cobra 29. In the radio pictured there is an easy place to add in a new rf amp section. In a cobra 29 its different because of where the rx line splits off... its not as easy to add in the new rf amp section without it affecting the reciever in...

    1446 in a cobra 29?

I've done this in a couple of cobra 29 type chassis... your biggest problem is the radios design itself and heat dissapation . I haven't checked out the links that were supplied by other members.... but the mod can be done. Personally, the way I've found that works great for heat dissapation...

Astatic MC-320 mic elements. GET 'EM WHILE YOU CAN!!!

i think there were a few guys selling replacements... I think one was from overseas and had great prices on new crystal elements that were similar size to a Astatic cartrage. They were very cheap if I remember right. I've often wondered about the fidelity.... if they were similar in audio...

    cobra 29 mosfet problem

Yea you can try it out... its up to you. What that cap resistor mod is doing is lowering the voltage to the driver but letting all the audio through. The resistor part drops the voltage which lower the carrier.. the cap is there so the modulation can still make it into the driver... in a cobra...

    mosfets

That small transformer in the back is not a transformer.... its just a choke.... its basically a filter choke to filter the power coming into the radio. When you start peaking up radios to high levels of power you have to beef up certain sections. That choke is definatly one of them. The...
