C179 failing in the old SSB 858 chassis is very common, replace it with a 2.2uf 50volt cap. Jim

I tune radios on a dummy load using my oscilloscope, I pay attention to the RMS output, and whatever the peak output is, is what it is. But there is nothing like “Dosy Watts” to sell a radio…..:wink:

I have had that problem after upgrading the AM power regulator, you can change D26 (5v zener) to a 3v or 3.3v zener, you may even be able to get away with it a little lower. But dont just chop it out or jump it, its there for a reason. Jim

I have been a tech for over 30 years, this statement is just not true... The only way to check the % of modulation after installing a swing kit is with a scope simply because you can't calibrate a modulation meter with your RF power fluctuating all over the place.
