Ts-940s dots on display unit

Had same problem on my TS-44sat years ago...replace a 10mHz oscolator xtal. Xtal was bad. Also, check mods.dk - Modifications for radioamateur and others. The early Kenwoods seem to have similar problems on most rigs.
