That's why I was looking at the 257 because I get a little more radio, but as Brake mentioned below (and DTB) about the quality issues of the 257.
I'm not sure which version/edition of radio it would be? It would be a new radio if that means anything?
The Uniden 980? I haven't read very...
Hmm thanks for the info!
DTB wasn't very fond of the 257 at all and preferred the galaxy, but I will be using it for SSB as well as AM. I live in Louisiana so the climate isn't that cold and the radio should warm up fairly quickly.
If I got with a galaxy I'll have Dave mod it for receive...
Yeah, he got back with me. Hopefully we can figure this out. I appreciate yall help aswell! It's seems I'm having a run of bad luck this week. Some chick decided to rearrarnge my weld in roll pan on my truck Friday night so now I've got to deal with that too this week. My goal of a yeticom has...
I'm always hearing him here in Louisiana, along with a few other guys in Cali. Hell, some times all I hear is guys from California. haha I dunno what it is.
The past two days I've been hearing that "cotten pickin" John Denver... He was all over AM on Friday.
I sent him and Email about an hour ago. I guess will see what happens. I dont mind sending the amp off for him to look at, its just bad timing because I leave to go on a road trip next week and I'll be Amp-less!! :scared: :crying:
haha
I know the 18' coax thing is a myth. My longest run just so happens to be 18'. I didnt plan it that way, it just fell out the way it did. :pop:
Anything else to add to my Amp problem "doc"? Being that Im seing 12v when keyed down could this mean Im having an internal problem with the amp?
I've got a meter to check the coax. The continuity checks out fine, but I didn't get to pull the 18' peice out because of rain today. However I did check continuity at the pl-259s on it and all checks out good.
Also I took the cover off the amp to check voltage coming in while I keyed the...
The radio is working fine now, but it is grounded to the seat frame. It seems as if the lock washer that came with the antenna mount shorted out by coming in contact with the center of the stud, but my amp is still doing the same stuff. I noticed the washer issue when I made a new mount for the...
Brake, who do you buy your coax from? I'm looking to possible order a premade 18' section of RG-8x.
Dxengineering.com any good?

Well, I picked up a whip and spring today, but my excitement was soon ended.. my meter is still doin the same thing with my amp on. My power when keyed should be at 125, but it jumps around and falls to 50 or so. My radio checked out fine until just a few minutes ago. The amp meter lights up but...
I read that the whip was around 40 ohms and I don't have the antenna yet so I don't know the exact number. I've been running the Silverload up until I started having problems.
Thanks 2RT307, 230+ thousand miles.. it's a moving work in progress.. haha
Thanks DB. I bonded my truck when I first installed my setup a few years back, so Im set there. I also saw where the whip antenna is 40ohm.
When the Silverload was working correctly I tuned that antenna down to where the SWRs couldn't hardly be any better. Really made me feel good. :D :p
I...
I knew this thread was gonna go this way when I posted that.. haha
Factory front springs and I was supposed to lower the rear to match.... but as I said, didnt happen so I put it back the way it was.
Back to the topic.. Sorry fellas.
I the Tuning a 102" whip thread the was a guy...
I may have to do a spring with a whip. It will hit a few things Im pretty sure of that. I guess If I went with a spring Id have to trim the whip down? I need to go read that Whip thread..
The only other antenna I've looked at is the K40 4.5' tall antenna they sell.
It had 35s and went to...
Well my Wilson Silverload took a dump. Not sure what happened, but my meter was showing some funny stuff when keying down so I traced it down to the antenna. Put the multimeter on the antenna base then to the "grounding wire" on the antenna and I get a buzzer goes off. I thought my coax and...
