I love the Turner +3 for sideband but, my very favorite is the D104 UG-8 stand, a non-amplified crystal head mic. it's perfectly clear, not tinny and it doesn't overdrive the ALC.

Okay, I see. with a compression-Amp mic it's all done before it even enters the radio. Does the positive peak still go above the 100% modulation line with this mod?

The first meter will add to the reading of the second meter. Every connection you make creates loss. How much depends on the meter movement and internals. You read at one end or the other.

First of all, remove that 1969 and put a driver in there. you can't get enough bias voltage to make a 1969 work as a driver for another. Like Mark said, you need a 2SC2166, they're about four dollars at RFparts.

Well, went to Rat shack today to get the 32 caps I needed for the 142. Most of the multiple numbered caps, like 47uf they didn't have near enough of and the big Power supply cap was the wrong configuration, wire out each end. Anybody want to sell me a kit?

So, if I'm reading this right, if you want the NPC mod. you'd be just as well off using a good compression-amp mic like a turner +3. As that mic takes a lot of speech and compresses it into a 100% modulation waveform.
