The rules on the use of 23 channel CB radios are not clear, but I believe they are legal to use. Why do I say this?
First, the rules expressly state that it is a violation to manufacture or sell them. However, no rules says they cannot be used.
47 CFR 95.603 states:
(c) Each CB...
Warnings (citations) are only required if you do not have a license and if the activity you are engaging in does not require a license. Lately, it seems the FCC has taken a "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude with respect to rule violations.
About 5 years ago a guy was caught because he was driving around locally using a radio with a high powered amp and causing so much interference the FCC sent some agents there to drive around and see if they could find who it was. They got lucky because he stuck to his local and happened to be...
The rules provide that certain equipment needs to be certified as meeting FCC regulations before being offered for sale in the US. There are exceptions to that rule. One exception is equipment imported for export. Say you import equipment and sell it down in Miami in the free trade zone...
States cannot enact any law in areas where the federal law has been deemed to preempt the area. Doesn't matter if the state law is stricter or more liberal.
Your signal does not have to go beyond state lines to invoke the jurisdiction of the FCC. Any activity, even local, which might have an...
People complain they don't want the features being offered or that a radio, which they have never seen or tested, is crap. So why don't you say what you want and what you are willing to pay for it, right here and right now. Obviously, a $600 radio is going to have more features and perform...
Surveyed at truck stops. I heard the board is the same board as the 696FD1, but when I get one I will confirm. Anyway, as I said post what you want and how much more extra you would be willing to pay for it.
Surveys by Ranger showed this is a feature that customers wanted, so if you want something say it here and at what price you will be willing to pay. And remember, the radio has to pass FCC standards.
Ranger has a new 129TA radio arriving Monday and should be available for purchase in about 2 weeks. Hope to get a sample soon. I don't believe there is any significant design changes other than the addition of a timer/alarm that can be set by the user. Should be nice for those looking to take...
Both are made by Ranger Electronics but the new Connex has not come out yet. It is not even in production. Also, since the FCC lost the case claiming the Connex was illegal, it is clear the Connex is not an "export"
Yeah, that is a different model. New version looks like it has a black face and a large meter, similar to a Galaxy. Some interesting additions to the radio. I guess they are going for a patent first, so not too many people have seen it.
Got a sample last night from Ranger. I like the TFT screen. Will test it out over the weekend, but seems like it has a good receiver out of the box. If it could just filter out the broadcasts by the knuckleheads I would be happy.
Forgot to mention that there is a new Connex coming out. Looks...
Great review and some good points in rebuttal to the comments of those who have not tried the radio. As you point out, the CB business is a niche market and the manufacturers obviously know what sells or they would not be in business. Couple that with the unpredictability of the FCC and it is...
