Texas Star DX500 and high SWR

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not sure if I will have the time to totally break down the unit for such a modification, although thermal tracking would be the best way to go. I am not sure if I would put the diode so close to the transistor. In my area where the winter tremps drop as low as -5...

So would you say that it was worth the small investment? I was wondering what your intended purpose was for it?

Texas Star DX500 and high SWR

Hi Gentelman, Sorry this reply is so late. I have this experement on my to-do list I just haven't had the time lately. I have been very busy with famiy issues. I plan on getting this done in the near future. I have some parts that I need to order up for it yet. I will first try it just...

    Mic parts and refurb

I have found that replacement Miller furnace filter foam is the same thickness and density for use as a replacement. A google search would be your best friend here. Good luck.

    Crossbanding radios

The tm-v71a is an excellent choice. The three minuite timer never bothered me. If your transmission is longe than three mins. it is probably a good idea to shorten it up a bit for the common courtasy of others.

If you use FRS/GMRS/CB, this effects YOU

That thread is more than three years old. I do not think that they would be able to enforce it even if they did pass it. Once the cat is out of the bag you never get it back in.

The Baofeng UV-5R: Better than you thought . . .

I had a chance to play around with some antennas. I tried the commet sma-24J...and compared it to the Diamond nr-770 and the commet ca 2x4sr. Now I know these two antennas are not practical but just to do a comparisin and found the SMA-24J is very close to these two on TX. The RX was a little...

    Hi gain HT antenna

Ok, So talk to me about a gain antenna for use on 70cm. What would the measurements be for a 1/2 and 5/8's wave groundplane be for 70cm?

The Baofeng UV-5R: Better than you thought . . .

I looked over the spec's on that Smiley antenna and it seems that they are similar the commet SMA-24J and the Diamond SRJ77CA. So what about it makes you feel that it is superior to those?

    Hi gain HT antenna

Hi all, I am looking to pick up a high gain Ht antenna and I am thinking of either the Diamond SRJ77CA or the commet SMA-24J. Opinions? Thanks. 73's

    fluxuating power issue

Hi all, I wanted to run this by everyone to get a better opinion of what may be going on here. I have a Kenwood tm-v71a running into a Diamond sx-400 then to a commet 790a. The meter is inline full time. The swr was always 1:3:1 and it read the correct power specs on vhf/uhf. Then...

    Crossbanding radios

The Kenwood tm-v71a is an excellent choice for crossbanding. It does not id the input frequency and is no problem to do that manually. It would probably be a better idea just to id yourself as you normally would and this would take care of both. Got to love that Yeasu subjective opinion...LOL

The Baofeng UV-5R: Better than you thought . . .

I am assuming you are refering to the uv-5re plus. They are very nice. I did the extended battery mod a couple days ago and it fits good. I seen the video where he enlarged the hole for the mic element. This will only have a minimal effect. These radios have a mic gain issue and needs to be...
