I would have to agree with the posts above. Although these are commerical radios and the audio seems to be on the low side. Apearently they have extra filtering built into them for use in noisy enviroments. I have found some info on how to correct this issue, But is isn't for the lighthearted...
Thanks Brett I had seen that. I like how they put up a blanket check to cover up the real problem. (with a fully functioning unit). apearently it is a mic gain issue.
You have to remember that these boafeng's are commerical radios not ham radios and they have extera filtering on the audio for...
Very, very good question Robb. Well as it turns out I do beleive that I got a defective unit (pisspoor referb). I have a couple of problems with it.
1- The unit is making a strange pulsating static noise while in tdr(dual band mode) It does go away if I opt out of that mode...which brings me...
Hmm, I have found another weird issue.
I have 442.000 programmed in and I am getting what I can only describe as a birdie. The squelch doesn't seem to cut it out and the output of the repeater sounds very noisy like a pulsing buzzing sound and can hear the audio of the repeater behind it...
The audio mod that I have seen was done to the external mic, not the one internally. Even when you get close to the mic and talk loud it is still on the low side with the internal mic.
I am going to try this one as soon as I get some time. I am not a big fan of the external mic's.
Oh by...
Yes, I had seen that Brett. In my experence with it so far it seems to work ok. However I am finding the audio is to low for my taste. I found this mod that I hope would open it up a little;

It was the rx ctcss. I turned it off and it works correctly. I guess some work with it on and some don't.
Next question;
I am trying to delete the factory memory channels, But when I select mem delete it won't confirm it just beeps.
yes. ctcss is on both tx and rx with the correct pl tone. And dcs is off. I read some of the reviews that various people are having the same issue on Amazon but didn't find any corrections.
At this point I am not sure if it is a defective unit or not. I can't seem to find someone with allot...
I just picked up a uv-5re plus and i cant get vhf rx unless i hold the monitor button down. Has anyone else seen or heard of this problem and how to correct it?
Thanks,
73's
Hi all, I have one of these and it is programmed correctly and i can't get vhf rx unless you hold in the monitor button.
Has anyone else seen or had this issue and how would it be corrected?
Thanks in advance,

Eric
And test it I will!
Thanks for the insight Shockwave, I appreciate it much. I think that I'll leave the bias devider network for now untill I see what effect of seperating the dc will have. And since the 25 ohm sandbar resistors are unreliable as they do drift upwards over time reducing the...
Well I'll be damned. All this time trying to get THEIR design to work and all the while all that needed to be done is change part of it. :cursing::headbang
Going to change that streight away in my own unit and see what pans out.
Good catch
I am wondering what the make and model of the meter is that is showing the swr/power and the left to right audio bar graph that was used in that video?
Ok Brett.
However if they give you that same aggravating general blanket statement "I cannot duplicate the problem" along with **"I have bever heard of this before"**as they seem to want to tell everyone that sends them these units for repair for this issue:mad::mad:.....Then send it to me...
That is what I got out of it as well. Something did not sound right.
I had similar issues with the one that I had which I had cleaned up quite a bit with the rework of the bias devider network and reworking the amplifier grounds. I do beleive going to the regulated bias source would help a...
