I had a gen 1 2950 for years that worked great, base or mobile. Then it started acting up and the internal battery went bad which I replaced. Got tired of messing with it and sold it off for parts. Now have a 2970n2 on base really like it. No menus, easy to dial in any freq. I want and not...
What I've noticed with mine is the fan runs almost all the time(as a mobile)even if I'm not taliking on it. When I key the mic the fan shuts off until I unkey. This normal??
When did they start putting cooling fans in this radio? I can hear it running but don't see it in any pics of the inside. And why do some have that clear plastic on the covers and some don't? Just picked this one up and so far like it.
I put a switch on the back of my n2 to kill the internal amp. Switched off and turned all the way up I'm dead keying about 2 watts swinging to 25-30. With a Cobra XL250 behind it I get great audio and signal reports. That's what I run on base.
I'm trying to download the chirp software on 2 different computers and in both cases all I get is warnings and can't get anything to open. Any other sources than the original to try?
My 955 blows smoke and always gets great reports. I rotate on base with my N2 but I would rather look at the Stryker. I have the 497hpc in a mobile and love that one too.
It's definitely in the switch. I took the mike apart and pulled the keying bar out and just pushed on the switch. Same stupid sound. I hit the switch with some electronics cleaner. Took most of the noise away but it's still there, especially if the mic moves in your hand at all while it's keyed...
I have an Astatic Red Devil mic and every time I key it the thing sounds like you're rubbing it over burlap! Is this the switch? What is the fix? It's only a few months old and doesn't get used a lot.
