That brings me to another question...
What are the differences between amp classes?
Also, is it possible for a "tinkerer" to build his own amp? I would like to build something small at first like a 200 watt or something. then move on to bigger amps.
If anyone has any info on amp classes or...
Well yeah, this is my first amp. Back when I was a teen, and I first got into CBs, I had a cobra 19 and a little 100 watt amp (cant remember the brand).
HEck, I figure if your gonna do it.. go big :) I can get the Texas Star Sweet Sixteen for about 590 from my distributor :)
Hmm.. Theres alot of schematics, but I aint to good t reading them :)
I did find this:
http://cbtricks.com/Amp/txstar/texas_star_gen_info.htm
But It doesnt say if that is on AM, or SSB. and it doesnt say if that is 100w carrier or 100wat PEP. If its 100w PEP then that would be about a 25w...
Well... Im more confused as ever now... LOL. So, I thought a 98VHP would be a good radio to drive a DX1600 because it was the "high drive" version of their amp. Texas Star has a dx1600v which is a "low drive" version. The only difference is the dx1600v has a built in DX350 driver. So the...
Has anyone ever heard of 8541 electronics? Alot of people have suggested I take it to them. They are a Authorized Galaxy service center for out of warranty radios.
Hmm. Is this normal for a radio that is fresh from the factory with nothing done to it?
Is it something that a good tune can fix?
Would this condition cause the radio to sound bad? I get alot of good reports from it.
Well, the radio is completly stock and hasnt had any tuning or anything. I simply opened it from the factory box, and did the frequency conversion that is shown on cbtricks.com.
On AM, If I turn the power knob all the way up, the power meter on the radio will show 125 watts when theres...
Ok. So for AM, once I get the dx1600 I need to turn the power down all the way on my 98VHP. Then start reading a watt meter, and slowly turn the radios power knob until the DX1600 is outputting a 200 watt carrier, with only PEP of around 900?
Now, for SSB, what do you guys recommend I do to...
Hmm.. so it looks as if I will only need to output about 100 watts to drive the dx1600. 30 watts of AM outputs 850 watts on the dx1600. When I run SSB, s100 watts will give 1600 PEP.
So what would you suggest I set my deadkey at for AM? and what should i set it at for SSB?
Yeah Booty, thats kinda what I am looking for. Just to get it all aligned and the audio sounding good. The extra wattage isnt as important to me as having really good sounding audio on both TX and RX. Ill let the DX1600 be the watt maker :) I just want to push a good clean sound to the DX1600
I just bought a Galaxy 98vhp completely stock. I did the conversion myself (which was really easy) and I have been talking on her for a few weeks now. It sounds great from the factory. I am dead keying about 120 and peaking about 175 on the radios meter. I have had good reports on the way it...
