the astron gets hot right under the on switch.the company said its normal and the fan wont come on till realy hot even with no load it gets hot. id rather run it cooler so i got the fan..the fan realy made a difference a.. fan was only 9/10 bucks so why not....

general type question here..got a little desk fan to run under my astron 70amp ps to help run cooler..the instuctions for the fan said to always turn the fan off first then unplug the fan and the part i dont understand is it says to never leave the plug plugged in when the fan is off..why ...

whelp i gess shes txing right on..i hooked up my magnum in another room with no antenna n the rf gain turned clear down..i locked the tuner plus 3 on and played a recording of my voice ,40 count, on the 2970n2 n ran back to the magnum room n clarified my own voice in..even though the n2...

Doc,,seems like everybody i tune into now is 10,30 or 11.00..and was worried my tx mite be off since my rx changed..but since my clarifier is unlocked maybe it makes no difference since the tx is sapposed to track ''with'' the rx and so no matter where i recive someone my tx should be right...

the question was how to test mod without a meter..naturaly a meter is the way to go.but if you dont have one these methods should get you in the ballpark..

Hotrod..thats a great idea..never thought of that one..i remember a long time ago i read somwhere to put a constant tone to the radio whilst turning up the mic gain and when the needle stops going up thats where you leave it..not sure on the particulars though,thats why i posted the question....

not sure but doesnt 949 have a roger beep? i heard that roger beeps were ilegal .if so maybe 949s are ilegal.

Robb..i was thinkin since the clarifier is now on 10thirty to hear someone right, my tx would now be wrong to the person im talking to and maybe the tx n rx arnt tracking together..

Robb..misunderstanding here. the clarifier is unlocked.what i was thinkin was to turn the clarifier to noon then tune people in with the last digit of the freq knob.

Robb..its a ranger radio 2970n2 . would tunning someone in with the freq knob instead of the clarifier knob correct the problem for now if it is out of line ?

when first got the radio clarifier was dead on freq at 12oclock ..now a year or so later to tune everyone in i have to move the clarifier to 10thirty..does this mean my unlocked clarifier isnt tracking correctly....

it,s a 3 pronger..astron 70 amp..

70 amp ps has a screw on the back for a external ground.been running it a year now an never noticed it..havnt noticed any problems..is it important to hook this up? didnt realy want to becauce thats just another thing you have to undo in the event of a storm.

if u want a real good small antenna get a old willson 1ooo and replace the whip with the ;wilson short load' whip..
