Moleculo..didnt realy see what i was hunting for there..whats going on is when i turn the mic gain on the radio all the way off and key the mic im showing about a half watt of carrier whilst in ssb mode..from what i understand there should be 0 watts on a deadkey on ssb....
74in....heres a real simple way to tell if you got common mode currents....grab your coax whilst yer checking your swr and if yer needle moves,,you got common mode currents.
i always figer ,, base of antenna to base of antenna,,a good big un beats a good lil un every time..no matter how many bells ,whistles and purdy shinny things that are added to the lil,un..
yep,,its a compromise alright..but if you still want to get out pretty well without smackin every tree branch you go under or drive through you go under or with out your truck lookin like a remote control toy, it aint a bad compromise..
i personaly tested the '' a99 fire up tip '' and it does improve the tx..now on recive it probly wont do as good as the regular tip being less wire hiegth to capture the signal..i dont know,,i didnt test recive .... the amazing thing was there was a definite improvement on tx even though the...
simple and effective way to test it would be send someone out in a mobile 20 miles and mesure the difference in a deadkey reading between it and the 99..no modulation involved .. there will be your answer..
Moleculo..finaly got fed up with the mfj balun becauce couldnt get it sealed up to my satisfaction and just wound a rf choke outta coax..im much happier now ..
no tvi problem here..have the gpk and rf choke..plus its copper which is a better conducter then aluminum..be carefull handeling it though after a while or you,ll get fibre glass in your fingers .. PS..you mentioned in your op ''your favorite 5/8'' and the brand merlin..merlin is a 1/4 wave ...
got a real good match with mine and thats with a antenna analyizer. i regularly talk 30/40 miles away with it on ssb .. it aint a 1000 but its a dam nice lil antenna ..
i went to home depot then lowes then radio shack in search of some kinda antenna dope n all i ended up with is this stuff called '' ideal duct seal.''...its a putty type substance ment for electric cables going through walls..i guess this stuff never drys hard iegther..anyone know this stuff ?
