I installed it myself with the techs instructions. Dropped right in. I'm only a sparky, not a tech, so she kept the instructions basic for me. I was trying to avoid shipping a quite large box of 40+ year old electronics to them (2500 miles each way!) to save some $ if I could, and to prevent...
The Microchipz VCO11 worked fine for me, as mentioned in my first post in this thread. Radio is still working great 10 months later, spoke to the owner this morning on the local call channel (35 lower). So the Microchipz one will work in the Superbase. If there are other issues (bad caps, bad...
Sorry for the delayed replay, wanted to ask out tech why they may had had trouble.
The RF board has pins that connect one side of the board to the other and these are a common source of trouble. It's possible that one or more of those was disturbed when they replaced the VCO.
I can only speak...
Had a VCO on a Superbase die here. Radio was recapped and worked great for a few years, then one morning no transmit or receive when it was turned on. After about a hour it came good but 5 minutes later died again. TP1 voltage stuck on 5.4v and moving the VCO screw made faint sounds in the...
Last I heard (last Christmas) mom and bubs were doing well. She occasionally pops up on TM1 to answer a question, but is not doing any actual radio work for now.
There was about 10 of those done, and can confirm the mod works. Bang on 12 o clock clarification from turn on, cold night or hot summer day doesn't shift it. It just shows the radio makers can make radios that stable but choose not to because of the assumption that their customers either...
Love my Kraco base, my first real base (all in one with power supply) radio about 40 years ago. Sold it back in the day, regretted it for decades. Found another one in nice cosmetic condition a few years back, sent it to techs for a partial recap (10V electros) and channel conversion. Now...
Here you go, schematics, parts location drawings, and parts lists. Pace and kemtronic versions are identical except the Pace comes as a 23 or 40 channel radio and the kemtronic has only 18 channels, only difference is the dial and channel switch. A common mod in the day was to make the 18 and...
I have the circuit diagrams (main and pll box) and parts location drawings for both too, can scan and upload them if you can't find anything yourself. Have the owners manual too if you want it. They are in good condition so should scan up nicely.
They are for the 18 channel australian...
Seconded on the micro and one of those little purple Si5351 boards. We had a Kraco base done that way a couple of years back, works great and covers 120 channels (40 up and 40 down) with 10k and 5k drop switches.
It's been my daily driver base since then, works great and less noise than the...
One of the techs we used to use was working on something similar for the Uniden HR2510. They had a lot of spare time at the tail end of the COVID lockdown era and were working on a replacement display and controller combo to give it things like repeater splits, scanning, user programmable...
The newer President McKinley has LCD screen too, probably because it's cheaper than a real meter / LED display. May last OK in colder weather areas, but will prematurely die here (Australian desert).
My 1998 Toyota Landcruiser's black and white screen still working fine 26 years and 325,000 km (about 200,000 miles) later. Wife's 2013 Toyota Corolla has a fancy color one, that one is still working too, but only half the age and mileage of mine.
Had two Bearcat 980's purchased new. Screen...
Didn't know he was on the forum, thanks for that. Fixed mine instead of buying a 980 or McKinley as radios with LCD screens seem to die a premature death out here (australian desert). PC122 was fixed when covid was in the news every day so 2021 or 22, still going strong and no crappy LCD to...
These were a junk quality Korean made AM that were common here in Oz for a year or two in the mid/late 80's. Imported and sold here by a long defunct auto parts store chain that mostly sold stuff like cheap car tools, car polish, and seat covers. There were quite a few radio shops around at...
Sounds exactly the same way mine died. Was working ok, then stored for a few years, turned it on again after taking it out of storage, dead. Transmit ok but audio was a bit muffled, no receive and signal lights go up on their own like its transmitting, but it happens even without a mike plugged...
Not the case, these things work on receive equally well. Got an Oz version of this thing in my GE cybernet, if I cop a lot of crackle splatter from another channel I flick the mod on and they come thru clearly. I then often ask what channel they are on if I want to keep talking to them...
