Channel number announcer for blind operator.

Local tech here made something along those lines for a 80 yo diabetic whos sight went so bad he could only tell dark from light and couldnt use a phone or computer, and could not see channel numbers on the radio, think it was a uniden grant. No talking numbers, but 1 short beep when he landed...

Transmitting on 15 channels.....at the same time?

I mainly use it on receive. If splatter or bleedover comes crackling through the speaker because someone close or with big power is interfering a flick of the switch brings them in clear without having to click through the channels. I can then turn wideband off and change through the channels...

Transmitting on 15 channels.....at the same time?

No, it receives on 15 channels at the same time when the wide band switch is turned on. If there are people talking on say 30, 33, and 38 they all come through clear at the same time, just like they are all on the same channel, if the modded radio is on any channel from 23 to 40. Loz!

Transmitting on 15 channels.....at the same time?

**** re-post from earlier thread on the same subject **** Found this mod in an old GE A model we bought at a yard sale. GE was rusted out dead beyond repair it had been in a wet barn for decades. But built a new circuit as above and put it in a working cybernet base radio. And it works real...

Two of them were my radios, one was a Hornet which is an aussie rebadge of the cobra 142 or 146, cant remember which one, the same method also works for the uniden washington and the side mike cobra 148 and other uniden made ssb radios with the 16 pin transmit mixer chip. It involves seven...

MIDLAND CB MODEL 79-265 MOBILE EXTRA CHANNELS/CLARIFER MODS

One of the local techs here did a Cobra 29 for one of their customers in the USA (they had to send a radio here 'cos cb radio down here is ssb only). Posted with all the technical details with pics (way over my level of understanding tho) on the trans1 forum. Cost was under $20 with currently...

    Galaxy radio drift

The young 'un uploaded the video to youtube for me and the technical stuff about the base is on the t1 site, most of that stuff though is way above my level but radio works great bang on freq and no drift detectable by my ears, supposedly 1.5 hertz off but sounds fine to me...

    Galaxy radio drift

Couldnt pick it by my ears. Anyway it got better with age, it drifted back 1 hertz the other way so now its only off by 3 hertz, close enough for me. Got the krako ssb de luxe base back today from its 40 channel plus conversion, its drifted from cold to hot by 1.5 hertz, a bit better than the...

    Galaxy radio drift

Tech said it was more likely to be temperature variation but in the end it was not worth losing sleep over because my old ears cant pick a 4 hertz error so we left it at that. Good enough for me. Next radio currently being done is a kraco ssb de luxe base radio from 1976. Apparently it...

    Galaxy radio drift

They said the drift was from the 10.240 crystal which is outside of the TCXO control. They offered to fix it but we declined as neither me or the others on the channel could pick it by ear. Moved on to my next radio now, 42 year old Kraco.

Modifications to a 23 channel radio, illegal?

Just dropped a Kraco 23 channel base to tech in excellent physical condition but completely dead (no power getting through and a faint burned component smell from inside). Asked them to convert to at least 40 channels (oz call channel is 35 lsb so a 23 channel radio is useless down here) and...

    Galaxy radio drift

Just got back from month long vacation road trip, 4 states with a 4wd and trailer through both desert and tropical areas of the country. The radio was measured again when we got back and it had drifted 4 hertz lower, so average one hertz a week. On air most people said i was spot on freq, but...
