I was posting when you replied lol. Yeah I'm not very familiar with CB radios. I have some family that can help me out but I'm looking for advice from all sorts of sources. Can't ever have to much info.
It's actually an early Walmart mount from about 15 years ago. This was all tested under a garage with an open door. I can't curently find my swr meeter the antenna is constructed in such a way the cable is actually attached directly to it like an led light to a socket. It has a plastic base...
So I tested out my cb today and found that I had the most unexpected thing happen. I hooked everything up using a cheap antenna that mounts magnetically. (Probably my problem) this is on an 01 ford f150. I was figuring on at least static. Instead I fired everything up and nothing. It was like...
Speaking of Motorola I was digging through an old storage shed and found a box full of mics made by them. Thought that was cool as that's exactly what the phone I use. I should see if I can find any of the record players they made for cars online.
I actually got on this thread thinking if the asked wanted a more classic radio a regency cr-142 would be the way to go. Kind of ironic that somebody ells mentioned it. That's really one of 3 base radios that I even know of. In its day it blew plenty of radios out of the watter but today I...
sorry I thought you meant the radio. Thought the antenna I plan on using is to long. It's a 5 foot firestick. My car is going to look funny I I have seen worse. I passed a car the other day with one that had at least 9 antennas on it. Looked like a porcupine.
So I was talking to my grandfather about the old cb radios and he said something about using firestick on the pickup trucks. This got me to wondering if firestick still made good antennas or if the popularity is just a residue of when CBs were still extremely popular.
I can only imagine how that would have gone over with the FCC in the 70s. That bounce is good in thereoy but I'm imagine if it did work the by you have one delay that would confuse others.
2-5 miles is all I need. I'm using it for emergency use such as when my car breacks down. Where I live there are areas where cell phones won't work because of hills on both sides of the road. I can reach front and foward with the radio but not on the sides. I only want this thing for if my care...
I might buy the other cb latter but I'm short on money right now. I think the mounting it on its side is probably the best way to go for now. Thanks for the tip.
