That's a sweet looking base ! ! I love all the "old school" radios. This is exactly what I would have had as a kid starting out. I had a Midland mobile in the house powered by a small power supply and a ground plane.
Ah.....the memories.............
Radio was freshly re-capped, (complete), last week but the S/RF meter is dead in receive only, (swings during TX)
Update: Doesn't appear to be any cut traces.
TR8 and TR9 voltages appear within spec in service manual.
D5, D6, and D10 check ok.
There is activity on the scope at the junction...
Thanks for the insight Robb. I'll check those components out. I just got done recapping the entire radio....(and the meter was dead before that as well), so I'll be checking out these related components.
Once again....appreciate the leads ! !
Wow.....what a variety of responses......
So I have attempted to move VR1 but it makes no different. The legs of VR1 are dead.....no voltage. Same is the diodes leading up to VR1.
And just for the record, I have the equipment to adjust the receive side of the S/RF meter. My question was...
Radio: Cobra 146 GTL
S/RF meter works when transmitting (swings as it should). It doesn't do anything on receive. No swing at all with incoming signals.
Rest of the radio works great ! Any suggestions where to start to cure the ill??
Thanks
Thanks for the pointer..........this on top of a couple of 146GTL's I am frustrated with ! ! I really LIKE my 959 !!
When it rains it pours ! I guess this is pretty minor in comparison to what others are dealing with around here !
Have a good one.
We were lucky no tornado's got our house in Mississippi last week....but I did have one casualty......my 959DX. I turned it on and the frequency counter slowly counted up to 29.330 Mhz and moves up and down at random +/- 10. Channel selector and clarifier have no affect on the frequency. Not...
According to earlier posts, the RF is going to travel along the outside where the copper is anyway............the inside, (if it were copper), would be wasted anyway.
