I wish I was on a different forum right now... I have a REALLY GOOD reply for this pointless reply...

All things being equal: AB vs C

thnx appreciate the input. I think I understand a little bit now, how biasing would be important if you were trying to minimize IMD...

All things being equal: AB vs C

Digging into this further... It appears to me that the 2879 creates the least amount of IMD at 2watts input (@ -38db). Am I reading the data sheet correctly? I want to make sure I understand the relationship... http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/toshiba/1468.pdf

    10 pill gator

oh and for the record... in my limited opinion and knowledge. A Cobra or Uniden is going to be the BEST radio to run your box with. They have filtering that most exports do not and will produce very clean audio that is actually on frequency. You don't need the radio to swing to garbage ghoast...

    10 pill gator

I don't know... that's a lot of swing. That has got to sound pretty rough. It would splatter like a bucket of pudding thrown into a fan... With a two pill driver you should be able to run 3 a watt DK into it, maybe just a smidge more (3.5). A swing to 15 watts would keep the signal pretty...

All things being equal: AB vs C

I'm not sure if the question at the end is directed to me... but I'd rather have fidelity and a signal that isn't over-modulated and splattering on other channels (personally) than efficiency. So I'll be moving in that direction as much as you can on 11 meter...

All things being equal: AB vs C

I have a friend who is very much a Dave Made, Drive it like it was NASCAR, CB'er... when listening to my system he has more than once commented "Clean is Mean"... Even those guys can appreaciate good clean audio... then they chop your lips off! LOL It's funny, I don't know how, but there are...

All things being equal: AB vs C

Doc maybe I didn't make the original post clear; "all things being equal" up too the amp. I get that the amps are inherently different, although I can't tell you what those differences are... All I was proposing was as close as we could get to an apples to apples comparison up to the point...

Good stuff... I'm learning. Appreciate the replies.

All things being equal: AB vs C

I've read through a bunch of the posts on the site that remotely compare the AB vs C bias amps... Typically when someone mentions that ab is "cleaner" someone replies, "yes but not neccesarily... garbage in garbage out". So lets take this scenario... - Stock Uniden/Cobra CB (11 meter only...

    Texas Star on HF

didn't mean to imply the TS was filtered; only saying it was a cleaner signal than the class c that saturates the 11 meter market. I do get though that they lack the internal quality of something like the ameritron...

    Have you ever...

Thanks for the input guys... Even on 11 meter I'm pretty sensative to putting out clean signals... I've been through six different radios, trying to find what sounded best and put out the best signal... despite several very expensive "exports", my little uniden 68 is my primary radio. It gets...

    Texas Star on HF

I just asked a similar question on the Sweet Sixteen. The trigger for me was the difference in price between the TS Star and some of the Ham Amps I was running into... Not having my license yet, I wasn't sure what the difference was, but it was clear there was something else going on. It's...

    Have you ever...

LOL... I've been a bad boy on 11 meter but will try to clean my act up on Ham... we'll see. I suppose if I want to wreak havoc I can just always jump back into "CB" Mode and go raise some hell. I love the idea of being able to "work-the-world" with 100 watts, but I'm also a power junkie and...

Thanks man - I'm really looking forward to it. I've got some work left to do on the 11 meter setup... but am really looking forward to geting the ticket and adding a ham to the truck...

    Have you ever...

Thanks Doc... Sitting down this weekend to start my reading and to begin to plan out an install in the truck. Not sure what I'm going to do, but will probably run the radio "normal" for a spell and see how things go... I'm used to that need for power to get out and know it will be differnt with...

Has anyone ever, actually used a Texas Star 1600 on ten meter in a mobile application? Or is that just a joke to even consider it? Thinking about getting my ticket and just juggeling the possibilies with some of the equipment I have laying around.
