I like how he brags about the power his boxes make but he forgets to mention the pep switch is on..... The guy is a hack. Notice when people comment on his stuff that he runs and hides and won't answer questions from people with more knowledge .
Sound like a bad transistor. Look for the 10ohm resistor the smallest resistor in the box should be on the input side of the box next to input transformers or when looking at the transistors you should be able to read and not upside down the should be right above them to the left or right...
I ran at one time in my mobile a 2x8 a 300 amp alt and 6 battery's which was overkill for the setup for it worked out nicely. I would atleast add one extra battery and a 300amp alt that way you've got some cushion and a little room for upgrades
The reason your voltage is 13.8 with it running is because your alternator is charging and most newer ones charge at 13.8-14.3 and when your alt isn't charging the battery's come back to 12v
I'll say from experience that if you don't ground things right and mount your antenna In the right spot you will have fun dealing with the issues lol. If it was me I would pick mount it and ground everything well and buy a quality antenna and coax and upgrade your alternator and be done.
So your telling me I have to have a load to diagnose this radio? My Swr's are 1.0 everything else is good but this radio I'm not a duck by any means I just need pointed in the right direction.
Been messing with this radio for a while and when the DK is set any higher than say 1.5 watts it gets a squeal it doesn't do a lot of wattage on Am but SSB it seems to do well. I thought maybe a bad VR or bad final but I am not a great tech.
I think what's happened over the years is the smart people tried to explain counterpoise to the lesser intelligent and need to be reinterpreted for the not so knowledgable so we all can be on the same playing field . And saying all antennas try to act like a dipole ? I guess I need to read up...
I guess anything over 4 watts on am and 12 on SSB is illegal you don't have to have an amplifier to get more than 4/12 since there's a few radios out there that do 100+ I don't mind ham's or people that run power on 11M as long as they know what they are doing and don't splatter like the ones on...
