    Do you QRP?

I used to do mobile QRP (1w) with a buddy 15 miles away and another guy down in south florida on 3.965 until the local radio police (self proclaimed radio god about 50 miles away) told me that I needed to run more power so he could hear me. I couldn't resist baiting him so I turned up to 3 watts...

    Dual Banders with 400-480MHz TX

Yeah the mobiles are a different story than HTs The Icom 208 will TX 400.0000 - 478.9875 after modification

    Dual Banders with 400-480MHz TX

Most modifications require the removal of a surface mount jumper/diode/resistor. From what I have seen of the modified american versions of radios, you will only gain TX from 410 - 470. I know that my TH-F6 will only transmit from 410-469.9 after modification.

AR3500 no audio on fm tx

I hope you aren't looking at a modulation/watt meter to see modulation, because you won't see any LOL I couldn't resist replying because I have had numerous local knuckleheads bring exports to me to fix with that same complaint. "yeah he hears me good on fm but it ain't modulating or swinging...

    blind spot?

It really is simple. You're making a 2 element beam by hanging the reflector wire. Now the only drawback to it is that you are "pointed" in one direction. You can get fancy and rig up some rope and pulleys to move the reflector and you can even go as far as hanging additional wires in front of...

    blind spot?

just hang a single wire behind behind the dipole, no connections at all ;)

    wilson 1000

I never thought to ask, how did it perform on 27MHz.. or did you ever try? Also, you don't mention if it's a mag, trunk lip or roof mount... either way they could all suffer from bad ground and using the lengths given in the guide would give a higher swr. That's what I mentioned earlier...

    wilson 1000

Hmmm... normally cutting 3.5" off the whip, inserting it in the antenna and lifting it about 1/8" and locking it down will run damn near flat. I've done that with a couple of old 1000 mag mounts with the 61.5" whip and had no problems. From what I have heard, some of the shops are giving...

    blind spot?

No problem. Maybe this will help.
  10. Q

    blind spot?

Two things come to mind that you could try. 1) Each of you turn your dipoles so that the broadsides face each other, basically "point" the antennas at each other. 2) If it's not too much trouble, you could hang a reflector wire behind the dipole. You'll have a 2 element beam with no boom...
  11. Q

    blind spot?

Are both of you using a directional horizontal (beam) antenna? If not, what about a dipole mounted horizontally as high as you can possibly get it? The reason I'm suggesting horizontal versus vertical is because it will better follow the curvature of the earth. Also, having the directional...
