Sure enough. Someone pointed me to his live stream and I could not have hit pay dirt if I wanted to.
He had some Cobra 29 from Hawaii that a customer sent back.
And he is cussing and carrying on.... "how the f--k am I supposed to fix it man"
"I left here working i don't know what to tell you man...
I am with you.. but I am also thinking.... it's a consumer electronics device vs. a commercial FM transmitter.
Obviously that's your thing but I am betting that Harris did not use the same transformers. Unless they did? Beats me.
A lot of that gear is rugged. It's designed to run 24/7/365...
Well, when electronics are cleaned they are often cleaned ultrasonically.
They are immersed in a distilled water + detergent solution to break up flux residue and other contaminants.
Shooting plain city or well water that likely has dissolved metals plus Windex is bad.
It will develop problems...
Added emphasis mine.
That's the ticket. And that's fine.
If you wash electronics and it's just a board with a bunch of QFPs or something, fine.
Ultrasonic cleaning with nothing that is going to hold water or will be damaged by water like transformers, fine.
We are talking about a board with...
That's a negative ghost rider. Not "trying" to do anything - at least not intentionally.
I said I was splitting the hair....twice.
I actually have no intention of arguing anything about this guy Fine Tune or whoever he is. I haven't seen anything the guy has put out.
Carry on! I will refrain...
Anything between... like they state...
Switches, coax, etc.
All of these items have insertion losses. Some more than others.
The meter itself does as well.
I am not intentionally trying to split the hair, but if you change the length of the cable and take another measurement I expect that measurement to change.
I guess yes... I am splitting the hair here.
A lot of talk in this thread is about quantifying measurements and taking precision...
Probably not nice to necro a two week old thread but there is some interesting stuff brewing with this radio:

:)
And how are you going to quantify a reading on a needle.. unless it's digital?
The linked article is also pretty old by today's standards. As such is requires the usual grain of salt. things have changed since 2011 and before.. like some of his references to observations made in 1990 - 25+...
A cursory search reveals it to be a copy.
Personally I would go to the original creator and support him.
Is the original motor mouth device available for less?
This isn't my thing anyway. I don't like loud people on the air :)
