Sorry, but digital is not always a requirement if it's not used in your area. I found that while all state police & state road crews use digital in my area all of the counties and emergency services in my area still use the old analog frequencies. Saved me a bunch by allowing me to buy an e-bay...

This feature is useless in 99.9999% of America today since all cell companies have moved to digital carrier waves. It is also illegal , in America, to own/use a scanner that can pick up these old analog cell phone waves.

I'll look into the 1026 but I've got to be careful not to cause signal overload since my SWL'ing is all on portable type radios. So far MFJ has recommended that I stick with a MFJ 1046 Passive preselector. However, since SWL is 9/10 experimenting I'll keep the 1026 in mind if the 1046 doesn't...

I would use wire except that I have a pipe and roof mount that I can mount a 102" whip since stringing wire is a no can do for me. I asked because everywhere I read about the 102" says it's an excellent "quarter" wave which makes me wonder about the wave match on SW. If I can find a used whip...

I spent a very enjoyable evening last night listening to Taiwan and Western Canada (I live in Central Ill.) I've been improving the antennas slowly step by step but it's been worth the time and a bunch of fun! :thumbup:

Try a different cable to rule out that as a cause. A shorted cable can play tricks making them hard to find.

I don't know just what the hash is but I'm out on the enclosed front porch away from all the electric goodies that might cause interference. Just trying to "clean up" the signals a bit so I can hear better.

I'd like to help my Grundig 800 a bit with background hash so I'd like to add a passive preselector to the antenna input to take some of the strain off the 800's front end. So far I've narrowed it down to two preselectors.....The MJF-965 & the MJF 1046. The 956 is simple with the 1046 also...
