Memory Labels Yes, I was able to put names in a few such as NYPD ESU for their freq. It would seem something has changed...it seemed I couldn;t put a new name in when I overwrote a memory with a label...but right now, in MR mode, I don;t see #53 as an option at all.

So from time to time when programing the VX-8DR and wanting to Label a Memory, I find there is NO Set Mode Item #53 available?! I putt 447.125 in the A VFO, I set the Tone to 114.8 and I set the TSQ option...then I Hold Fn (function) and when the memory location is flashing I press Fn again and...

Tones Ensure that you both A) set the tone to the right one (like 131.8 or whatever) *AND) Turn Tone on so you see a 'T' in the display/VFO/MR location. Just a thought- as there are usually two things to set...which tone and turn tone on. Good luck, let us know.

APRS and VX-8DR Thanks for your input. I think I will probably exploit much of the APRS stuff. I've done it before along with other packet operations in the past. There are apparently a number of stations doing it right in my local area and where I travel most and I think it'll be cool to play...

Water Quite right...I was seeing it the other way. The -GR loses the submersible rating....the -DR is still rated that way. Cool.:oops:

I've spent some time looking at the VX-8 series of radios and I think I've decided to go with the VX-8DR. I found the following "VX-8 Comparison Chart" at Universal Radio and that was helpful. I definitely want to use it for APRS when traveling, and while the GR has the integral GPS, which...
