Anyone know anything about the BaoFeng *GT-3*

Baofeng programming info I'm a brand new Ham...actually a brand new Ham-interested non-Ham as I don't take my tests for Tech and General until Monday...and I got my GT-3's yesterday. Everything I had read indicated manually programming them...and ALL Baofengs...was a real chore because 1. The...

Anyone know anything about the BaoFeng *GT-3*

In the video in the previous post, watch at 6:45, 8:45, and 9:30 and you will find the GTIII is a fairly dramatic upgrade from the 5R, not just a repackaged 5R. There have been improvements since the video was mads as well. The GT-II 2014 I got today (2 of 'em) has a much better antenna that...

    baofeng GT-3, UV5R, or UV82

The GT-3 2014 does work with Chirp, its just that the GUI on the software hasn't been updated. When importing/exporting select the 5R and it works. And no...the new GT-3 is not a redressed 5r or 5r+...the radio has new components and firmware, as well as a more robust chassis that makes it...

So...with what I'm building...a balanced fan dipole, I need nothing, or a choke coil? If I were building an off center fed fan dipole, like a 1/3 fan dipole, THEN I would need a balun, right?

RF choke needed? I've read four articles on Ham Universe on the multiband fan dipole. The first has an item referred to as an "ugly balun" buit diesn't have any windings, see here: MULTI BAND HF FAN DIPOLE ANTENNA DESIGN here: KL3JM MODIFIED "SRI" MULTIBAND FAN DIPOLE - 80-40-20 METERS and...

    Beginner ham antenna questions

Antenna size itself won't be an issue. I have 2 1/2 acres out in the country with no zoning restrictions on Ham antennas. My property is also heavily wooded...lots of "poor man's towers". Question...aside from room, do I really need 160 meters? Does it get much use? Heck...according to the...

    Beginner ham antenna questions

OK...after agonizing over it I've decided to go with stranded copper for my first antenna project, the fan dipole. Later I might try the aluminum and/or galvanized electric fence wire, but for the first one I'm going to be simple and basic, not try to be cute. I picked up abpout half the...

1/3 the weight, 1/3 the cost. Work?

Hmmm...barbed wire is stranded...and it might keep any kids wandering in my woods from messing with the antenna...

Cool beans...on my way to Tractor Supply, then Home Depot for the rest of the pieces/parts.

1/3 the weight, 1/3 the cost. Work?

I had looked at the tape binrat mentioned, but it is almost twice as expensive as the 14 ga stranded copper. The link you gave me, however, led me to this: Electric Fencing, Wire Fencing, High Tensile | Agri Supply, 11278, Electric Fenc It gives me 1/2 mile for the same money as 500 ft...

    MAST FOR A99

I have a pressure treated 6x6x12 with the bottom on the ground, a 12 ft length of 1.25 galvanized chain link fence top rail lag screwed to the side 6x6 with three lag screws (overlap the 6x6 and galvanized about 14-16 inches, a lag screw 2 " from the end of the pipe and end of the 6x6 and the...

Yeah...I'm looking forward to it too...I HATE typing!...:D It may be on whatever I'm allowed to do on 2m/70cm...the frequency/wavelength/Mhrtz stuff is giving me fits. I'm good to go on the electrical, but the radio stuff is whipping my butt.

Thanks...just added Ox Gard to my Amazon shopping list. Now...are the radials as efficient as copper when using 12.5 ga aluminum?

I'm just beginning to learn about Ham, HF, antennas and such. I'm also poor as a church mouse and always looking for ways to do things frugally...inexpensive but not cheap. I'm going to start building this antenna tomorrow... MULTI BAND HF FAN DIPOLE ANTENNA DESIGN ...and I have a question...

Rich...what about aluminum electric fence wire? Its pricey to have to buy, but I've got thousands and thousands of feet of it already bought. I'm probably going to buile the 80-10 meter fan antenna as a permanent antenna right from the start, then build others to experiment with going forward.

Thanks! A last question...for the night. I'll dream up more while I'm sleeping... The wire...other than stranded wire, is there anyrthing "special" about antenna wire, or is it just plain ol' stranded copper wire of the appropriate guage...nothing special, just buy the least expensive I can...

Another question...do the radials on the each side for a given band have to be precisely symmetrical, or can they fan down at slightly different angles, and if so, how different?
