Ah ha!!! Another question already...since this isn't a turnable antenna, which direction do I want to orient the radials? Or (don't laugh...at least I'm thinking...maybe thinking wrong, but thinking) can I have another set of radials on the same antenna oriented 90 degrees from the first ones...
LOL...the doublet it too ambitious, but you suggest THAT!!??!...:D:D:D
Actually, it looks quite doable and I think I'll give it a try. The instructions are pretty clear and it doesn't look that hard. I do have a couple of questions not answered by the article:
1. You say no tuner...
An anvil doesn't sit flat, as you know. It sits on 4 very short "legs", though they are hardly big enough to call them legs. In the center of the bottom, between those "legs" there is a small, concave area. On eht 4th of July the town smith would contribute toi the town's festivities by...
Here's what I'm considering to start:
The All Band HF Doublet - 80 thru 10 Meter Ladder Line Multiband Antenna
Two questions...is it too ambitious for a first antenna, and what kind of antenna tuner should I get to go 160-10? Or is that asking too much from this antenna, despite it's...
Rig search over...I think!
Man...you guys have been awesome to a total newbie!
All the advice on how to get started on a tiny TINY budget...lots of feedback on different radios I was considering...a bit of antenna talk (which will pick up now...:D)...you guys don't know how much I appreciate...
No. That's cantankerous. I can deal with cantankerous. After all, it describes me.
As I said in the earlier message, he's a prick. Plain ol', not worth a bucket of warm spit, prick.
Another one...
Another good deal...I think...and another that doesn't do PayPal. Wassup? Hams in general don't like PayPal?
At least this one was nice...:D
QTH.COM Ham Radio Classified Ads: Ad# 1140168 - Swap amateur radio HF VHF equipment buy sell trade on line
Well, that one...the 520S...ain't gonna happen, for 2 reasons...
1. Doesn'tr do PayPal or any othjer payment method that protects me, but he want''s himself protected. He'll do personal check, Postal Money Order, whatever...and will ship the radio AFTER his bank says everything has cleared...
That's what I'm thinkin'. I shoulda called him last night, but its so far up near the tippy top of my budget I had to sleep on it. Now I gotta wait till 7PM Pacific to call. Oh well...that's 45 minutes before the auction on the next radio on my watch list ends.
LOL...I'm 59 so 30 tears old doesn't sound "old" for anything!
Missed on the 430S...$295.00 until last 30 seconds...went to $375.00 and I passed on it. I have 5 more radios on my EBay watch list, plus that 130 with the tuner and power supply on QTH. I'm calling on that one tonight.
Is it as easy as fig 1 shows here?
The Dipole Antenna - What is a dipole Antenna?
Between 2 trees? (I know...make accomodations for tree growth and swaying in the wind)And how high? As high as I'm willing to climb? (I get nosebleeds at anything over the second rung on a stepladder...)
The above question needs a quick answer...this one is a general question:
I've pretty much settled on getting a Kenwood HF rig. It seems that they come in 100 series, 400 series, 500 series, and 800 series, or at least that's what I've seen for sale in various places.
My question...am I right...
Kenwood 430S...good radio? On the 430S and 440S radios I've read about the "dot problem". I'm new...what is that and how big a deal is it to fix?
Thanks!
Bob
Thanks...will do.
I think I've pretty well narrowed the radio down to a Kenwood of some sort...perhaps that 120S if he and I can work a deal, thjough with the shipping its gonna be over $400 unless he comes down, right at the very tip top of my budget. If not that one, a 530S, 820S, or 830S...
Won't be telling a story...I take the tech and general (assuming I pass the tech, of course) a week from tomorrow (Monday). I thought I was going to have to wait until September to find a test reasonably close, but stumbled across this one yesterday.
That Alinco listed above looks sweet, but...
Hi Gary...quick response. Thanks.
Yes, it is an EBay auction but its not be an EBay scammer I'm pretty sire as they don't know how to use Ebay. They have the title of the sale post so misnamed it doesn't even show up with searches for Kenwood, 520, 520S, ham radios, or any other reasonable...
