add length to it until it's 22' 4" long. now its a 5/8 and will have about a 150ohm impedance instead of the 2500 ohm you find with a half wave. go 10 turns of wire from the ground plains bracket to the main element and about 3-5 turns up from ground is where you should find the 50 ohm tap...
good luck finding even one radio on earth that shows 6db for a s unit. after I read an old thread about ham radois being as low as 1 to 2db an s unit ive tested mine with a couple gyus who can ajust there power and its more like double the power for a s unirt
im bumping this thread because its...
Bend one yourself. 41.5" total of 8ga copper including the little loops around the bolts. You can use nolox and a brass flat washer between aluminum and copper to prevent corrosion and oxidation and use brass bolts and nuts, then solder them in place to keep it working for decades.
I don't think anyone else should buy a gainmaster. I think everybody should buy the 827, the vector, the maco, the a99 and the imax instead.
I want to have my gainmaster up on my tower and be the only person around with one so I can have the best performance in town.
Please keep coming up with...
I wonder if Im scratching the same side of my head as you are. It sounded to me like he was saying both. that my low angel antenna won't hit a higher angel antenna as good close in but my low angel antenna will hit a high angel antenna real good further out but I don't see the diffrence. If his...
I'm just taking my break so I have to make this quik, but to me it seems the lower angel antenna would even be stronger close in if it was up high enough like it will be on my 71 feet tower thois weekend. to me it seems that if it concentrates the power into a smaller beam then it would hit...
I did alot of reading about 5/8 before I bought my gainmaster. A friend lost his radio shack 64 metal 5/8 in a storm awhile back when I lost my maco and replaced it with a gainmaster. He told me it beat it hands down. I've heard him trash fiberglass antennas for years and couldn't believe my...
Sounds like the gainmaster is the wrong antenna for alot of people. unless you put it up higher then 18 feet over everything maybe the interceptor is the best bet.
I think most people should stay away from the gainmaster. I think they cant get it high enough to get away from all the houses, trees and other antennas to let it work. I've read about keeping balanced antennas away from interference from nearby objects. I run a 500 watter and I'm going to put...
maybe that merlin 55 should have shortened radial arms to. it already beats all other 5/8, with shortened radial arms it should get out better than any beam to.
Hi Homer, I've been following your progress. I'm impressed. You xcan stick with a project until it works, I wish I could teach my stubburn son to do that. dDo you think you could post your end mesurements? and did you check it for reactence or only for swrs?
Nice job.
but when you live with it for weeks or months you get used to how stations come in and when you change to a different antenna and everyone is stronger or weaker then you have a good idea of what is real even on sideband and the gain master is the best there is so far for 500 watts or less
