Yep, thats how it got delivered yesterday from Amazon. It was shipped in a crappy cardboard box, not in a pvc tube like others received.. Came from Oregon. I wonder if they had to bend it to fit it in the mail truck.

No tri-mount yet. 15' + is going to be a bit to high. So I'm still trying to figure out where I'm going to put it, or if it will turn into a base antenna .

Maybe things will be better tonight as I got notified the 102" and something else was delivered. Still waiting on some more pieces and parts. They should be here tomorrow and Friday

Sitting right next to I84 and I87 in Newburgh, NY, and the radio is silent. Could just barely hear somebody this morning on the drive in to work.

Thanks. Just pulled the trigger and it will be here tomorrow. $113 from Amazon. I must be crazy. Just dropped my son at college for the afternoon and sat on top of the hill for a few minuites, and nothing but dead silence. Except for the background static. Will the 980 work with the 102"whip...

So this would be a good radio to get? Just dont want to spend lots of money just to hear static.

Yes, but I didn't have to open it and desolder, resolder that one part to get it to work on 11. And the mic is detachable. It works and is not bad, very small. Just to bad almost nobody around me is on, and I haven't been able to talk to anyone yet.

Here's the awesome setup I have right now in the car. Cheap antenna from Carquest, and an anysecu 10m with the custom seat mount. Found out tonight that my led lights are noisey , along with the cell phone car charger. Whoops. Forgot the pictures. The antennea is laying down so you can see it...

I think it will be way to tall with a mag mount on the roof. So the 980 does sideband, What is different on it compared to the 880? The 880 doesn't do side band?

But wouldn't that block half of the antenna from the front and about 2' up on the other sides?

Just measured the truck. Its 6.5', putting the top of the antenna at 15' plus a magnetic base. Not sure where I am going to mount it

The 102" I want to put on my 2001 Ram 3500 dually. It should go on the roof but, 8.5' plus the roof of the truck is at least 6' . thats 14.5' and the bridge I go under is 13'. This might be a problem.

The 102" won't be here until Wednesday. Had one mounted to the side of my parents house, not the top but where the gutter is, when I was 12 or 13 years old. That thing was great. The radio was a Montgomery Wards 775. My sister's boyfriend had an extra base antenna they mounted it at the peak...
