That's the best deal i can find on an amp under $200 that is compatible with ssb, so I might get it and just deal with it. Have any better suggestions?
as long as I sound decent enough that people can still understand what i'm saying well enough to make QSOs, that's ok with me
wow you're leavin me behind! Haven't been able to have a conversation on ssb yet, just got my number called. Hell, even that could have been someone using the same numbers. That metal roof ground plane sounds great.
I don't have that swr problem with my wilson 1000 mag. It's fine in the rain. Might be getting rusted, but I don't really care as long as it still works. It's only a $70 antenna.

I would never go back to an AM only CB radio. SSB is a whole different kind of animal, I love it. I spend more time on SSB now than I ever did on AM. Lower noise floor, lively conversation... Not just a bunch of guys on their overdriven splatterboxes screaming BYE BYE BYE BYE BYEEEEE into the...
The more sunspots there are, the easier DXing becomes? So after this solar cycle peaks, talking skip will only get harder from there.
I hope the next solar cycle peaks like it did in 2000. Wow that must have been a golden year for DX.
What other radio bands are cyclical like 11 meters? I know...
The idea of the skip "dying out" is a terrifying thought for me. I have spent all this money on the hobby so I can talk some skip, and you're telling me it's just going to go away for decades at a time? are you kidding me?
Man that sucks, hahahaha.
But It kind of makes sense... About 8 or 9...
I've been wondering the same thing, except I don't want to spend more than $200.
For that reason I am most likely buying the midnight special 250 very soon. How much will this help in the area of shooting skip when conditions are right?
I spend most of my time on sideband.
I bet everything changes for you. Go on a little drive and find a nice little location in a wide open space. Maybe around water or somewhere with some elevation, giving you sight of the horizon. I love being mobile for this reason because it's easy to improve your location.
be patient and keep...
Made another contact tonight, 5931 New Jersey. Even got an audio recording of the QSO with my cellphone. Unless it was with anotehr station in Oklahoma, pretty sure they heard me.
Today has been a great day for skip, I've had two barefoot contacts.
I bought my galaxy used on ebay, someone who...
No it's just stock, galaxy 959.
I actually was heard today, check out my thread Requirements for DX and check out the story.
No need to apologize, i appreciate all the help I can get, brother.
Got my first response on SSB today. I went and parked on this hill that overlooks a pond in town while i was eating lunch, big wide open area that put me above most of the trees.
I called out CQ with my numbers 20-30 times on LSB 38, the band kind of opened up for a minute and it got quiet...
I think tuning people in on SSB is part of the fun. I enjoy that aspect of ssb, you gotta work for the best reception. I call out CQ and turn my clarifier ever so slightly after a few calls when i'm not getting a response.. that way I am covering all the frequencies just in case i'm off a...
Scroll down and read my thread Requirements for DX. We are in the same boat.
Can hear plenty of DX, can't make a contact. I have been trying every day for about a month, no luck for me either. I've never talked to anyone on SSB. I'm getting a 250 watt amp soon, hoping this will help me.
Good...
man, that sucks. Move your radios bro. get back on the air.
I'll be glad when I have my base station set up and no longer have to sit in the truck. Like right now it's 18 degrees with freezing rain. I'm sure it will be miserable this summer, that's why i've gotta get my station up by July...
