Yep, that's with the new Road Devil. Seems to cut right through, I've gotten good reports so far. Loving the feel of it.

Made my first out of state contact tonight. Can't call it skip, but my stock radio and wilson 1000 was talking over 20 miles! No going back now, I'm hooked....

    AM and SSB at night...

Alright guys, Just had my furthest contact yet!!! And it was around 10pm at night! Just across the state line in Caney, KS. That's 20 miles from here. The guy was talking on a Cobra 148 base station running an antron 99 70ft in the air. Said he couldn't believe I was mobile on a stock galaxy...

    Road devil power mic.

Just got it today and I love it so far. Looks awesome, and feels really solid in my hand. I get some feedback but I use talkback, just have to turn it down a little if im running the mic close to full volume, mic gain at 3 o'clock. It sounds nice through the talkback. One of the locals I talk to...

    New Setup

I have the Cobra 29 LTD Classic SE and I like it. It's a pretty cool radio. I got it on ebay for 35 bucks and it was described as "peaked and tuned". I don't think its putting out any more power than my stock 959 though. Just curious, how come you don't get something with ssb to play around...

What exactly is the difference between a class b and a class c bias amp? I have read that it sounds good on ssb, it has ssb delay. I'd like a tnt amp, but i just can't afford one right now. Also, do you know anything about the Mosfet midnight specials? X-Force seems to have a Midnight Special...

    Requirements for DX

After looking at some amps, I think i'm going to go with the Midnight Special 250. From what I've read, it will pair perfectly with my radio and it's right in my price range. I also don't have a ton of space to work with, at least in the areas that make accessing the amp convenient. Do you all...

Yes. I ordered an Astatic Road Devil. Any experience with one? I researched a lot of different mics and liked the way that one sounded. I'm excited to try it out, i'm hoping it's a step up from the stock cobra mic i'm using, i get reports that it is quiet.

lmao, this is me. So I guess what you all are saying is ditch the wilson and get a permanently mounted antenna so I can bond and ground it properly? I was thinking about installing a 108" whip on the lip of the truck bed. sound like a better antenna system? Wish I just would have bought the...

    Yaesu 1900R mobile antenna pairing

Hey guys, got a question for you. I have a Yaesu 1900R I've been sitting on for nearly 2 months now. I'm wanting to install it in my truck but i'm not really sure what kind of antenna would be best. I think I'd like to put in a permanent mount, but I am also open to mag mount suggestions. I...

    Requirements for DX

I don't understand why i'm having so much trouble making contacts on sideband then, if it's so easy. Anyone else running a similar setup to my own? Barefoot stock radio and a wilson whip? What kind of success are you having? And it's not that I don't want to run an amp, it's just that I haven't...

    Requirements for DX

Alright so I tried the auuuuuuudio method. Seems to peak around 14 watts. climbed to 18 watts several times when using a louder voice. When I turn down the mic gain to halfway, the power dropped off to around 10-12. Still no luck making a contact though. so frustrating since i spend most of my...

    Requirements for DX

Wow, thanks for that post. I have been getting frustrated trying to measure the power level on ssb. Sometimes the needle spikes all over the place while i'm calling CQs, other times it just hovers around the middle. The tone generator seems like a good idea. That could be part of my problem. I...

    Newbie looking to get started

I started the same way, just buying a little at a time. got a little cobra 19 ultra III and one of those crappy mag mount antennas from walmart for christmas one year. hooked it up inside on an extra battery I had and a trickle charger. ran the antenna out the window where it was stuck on the AC...

    Requirements for DX

I like the idea of having to work for contacts. Because when I finally do hear my numbers called back, it will all be worth while. I think if I could just get my radio tuned, everything would change. It's likely that the Galaxy isn't pushing a full 4 watts, and I don't think it's hitting 12...

    Requirements for DX

wilson 1000 mag mount on the roof of my gmc pickup. SWR reading of 1.4 across the band. I've got the antenna coax running in through my hinged window on the side. I stuck a piece of wood in the edge of the window so that it won't crimp the coax. no pressure on it.

    AM and SSB at night...

Yeah, I was kind of thinking the same thing. Is it that hard to turn up VR16 without a power meter and scope? Something someone with basic common sense could do on their own? I've watched videos of it on youtube, doesn't look like rocket science. That's the main thing I want to do to my galaxy...

    Requirements for DX

Yeah. I believe you, it doesn't take much power to work stations around the world in the right conditions. I'm not doubting that. There's just so many stations pushing power that most low power TX is drowned out. The skip has been coming out of my radio strong for the last two days now. Anytime...

    Road devil power mic.

I've got one of these Road Devil mics on its way to me, first aftermarket mic i've ever bought. Excited to say the least, I love the orange color. Hoping this gives my stock galaxy an edge, I get told my audio is on the quiet side quite a bit, hoping this helps.
