That's 40 feet of straight cable run out the bottom of the antenna?
So mounted vertically, you need to get the antenna up such that there is 40 feet from the base of the antenna to the ground?
I have an IMAX 2000 on the way.
Can't go on roof, was thinking about a yard mount.
How far from power lines (not high voltage, regular stepped down residential lines) do I need to be to minimize interference?
When I drive under the lines to get out of the driveway with the mobile, I...
Funny, I like the looks of the ranger better - could be because I have two full size racks with computer equipment in the house!
But it won't be going in the server closet so doesn't matter . . . . still leaning toward the Galaxy.
Looked at the 95T because of the built in linear but I...
CB w/ SSB. Unless there is a compelling reason, haven't looked at the 10m bases - let me know if I should.
Looking at the Galaxy 2547 and the Ranger TR-696F SSB.
Looks like the Galaxy does 12v which is neat if I want to pack it up, but the truck has a big inverter anyway so no biggie...
Wanted to give an update:
Still running barefoot with just the radio and a Lil Wil.
Night and day performance difference between this radio and the Midland 79-290 / firestik cellular look alike antenna setup it replaced.
Midland was noisy as all hell and I made very few contacts...
Had the 79-290 and I wouldn't recommend it:
- removeable faceplate is fragile; locking mechanism is plastic and breaks in short order
- receive is noisy and marginal
- not particularly inexpensive
It is a nice looking radio and very compact; if you aren't removing the faceplate...
Received a new one from Walcott today.
Underwhelmed with the build quality - think felt cheap. Not the D104's I remember of old.
They even have you plugging the battery right into the circuit board - seems like a bad design for the sake of saving a 10 cent connector.
To boot, the thing...
Both the antenna and the radio were packed fine. Right sized outer cartons and plenty of padding.
The radio was put back in the original box and showed no signs of ever having left the box - no marks, fingerprints etc.
Here's a question that maybe desrves its own thread. The radio has...
As some know from another thread, I just put a new Galaxy 959 in the truck.
Was DKing 6w with a Firestik cellular look alike mag mount
With a little wil, same spot on the roof, much lower SWR's (like from 2.2 down to 1.2) and it is now DKing higher at 10 watts.
Does that sound right...
I’d like to say you get what you pay for but I’m not sure what the lesson is here; maybe research first?
As some of you may have seen from other posts, been away from CB for a while and got a radio last year – the one used as an icon for this forum – the Midland 79-290 and a firestick...
Still waiting on the radio . . .
Also took some measurements, and I'm not sure I have enough clearance behind the plastic bezel to fit the radio - its a Galaxy 959 and is pretty long.
May need to look at other options . . .
Nice to see them on here. I ordered from them based on recommendations from this board.
I emailed yesterday for status and then called today first thing - was looking to change shipping to 2nd day so I had it to install for the weekend and add a power mic and PA speaker I forgot to order on...
Description of their mega tune from the website: http://www.premiere-electronics.net/questions.shtml#2
"Our Mega Tune is designed to provide you with loud booming audio while still maintaining a clean and clear signal. If you looking to sound raspy or bleed over many channels this defiantly...
The Midland was about 6 months old - got it through amazon.com - it was version 1.3 which I think is the latest.
I looked at the board, the radio landed on its volume knob which is bent. My dad is going to take a crack at fixing it (Korean war signal corps) - if he can get it going again (and...
Thanks - I'll keep you posted.
I'm looking into other mounting options as well.
Its a 3/4 ton chevy avalanche - you'd think there'd be room to mount it but not really . . . .
on another note, just looked at the 257 and it shows a frequency range north of CB/SSB . . . . what's the deal - does kt need to be modified to function on CB frequencies and if so, what's the benefit over a peaked and tuned Galaxy 959?
