I know of a few different ways to get more audio, other than those listed for search on the web. 148s can be audio monsters, but you won't see much in the wattage department. Nevertheless, you want to stay away from any mod that wants you to clip a limiter in this chassis radio.

Another good option, 98VHP. Not a big fan of built in amps but it's a nice rig when done right and not ran wide open constantly.

Good strong radio, but not as potent as the previous generation of SR490HP's for some reason. I noticed a slight difference in some of the parts used, haven't seen one put out the wattage I got from my 490 yet. None the less, that famous Stryker audio, and a nice display to boot.

DX979 with top gun mods, purchase an external freq counter, make sure you have good quality coax and not some cheap stuff. I also say Bob's CB for the purchase
