    and the fun begins

Well, after spending 8 days in lockdown, I can finally say that the antennas will be finished this week. I was going to finish them the weekend before last but got pulled and found out there was a warrant for my arrest that I knew nothing about....gotta love it right? Pics to come, updates soon.

    New toys

Recently picked up a RoadPro Titan II RPSY 485, which is a Magnum 257 clone with a single final only, a refurbed Galaxy 66, and a HR2510, all for next to nothing. At the moment the only one that's working is the 66, both the Titan II and the 2510 have issues, the displays light up but nothing...

    If you had a choice...

I may just do that, pick them both up. It seems the majority of you guys say the 2510 is better all the way around, I know the S9 is a good rig but it's been done over and over and over again, I know the 2510 has stood the test of time and is still hailed by many as one of the best. I guess...

    If you had a choice...

HR2510 or S9 I've got a line on both, with them both being unmolested and in mint condition for an unbeatable price. I've always had this issue, can't ever decide on which I'd want cause they're both awesome rigs. Input anyone?

Choosing a location for an ANTENNA

Always wanted a house with a silo, mount an antenna on top of one of those bad boys and bam, get my words heard with a 2 pill. I wouldn't put much stock in driving around for the best location as it's been said before, just keep in mind height is key, as well as keeping it away from trees and...

My First Attempt At A Mobile Antenna

Homer, was curious how the antennas have held up over time. I love reading up on projects like this since it gives me ideas to improve my own designs, as well as helps me know what to avoid. Thanks for all the shared info!

    and the fun begins

some good reading there, and it somewhat looks like I'm going after the same thing, but I've got a few of my own tricks up my sleeve. It's all in the fun of building things, the wife tells me I should go get my ham ticket and be happy...I just can't clean up my mouth long enough lol Booty...

    Sweet New Base From RCI

it's a 2950 with a different display and a power supply....just another radio for someone to buy and say "look what I have"....

    Connex Mod. What is this?

the NPC mod is more for the average power, it's a decent mod for what it is. I do it on just about every 3600 and 6900 chassis I get. I've got the same yellow wire on a few 3600 chassis myself, haven't really paid much mind to them. If I'm not mistaken it's a part of the roger beep system...

    Mic squeal

^^^I agree, convert to 4 pin. If you are handy with a soldering iron and can read schematics, it's a straight forward conversion. Well worth the short amount of time and will save so many headaches. How did you wire up the cooling fans?

    and the fun begins

So the shafts are cut and predrilled for the coil and fittings, pretty much all supplies are on hand now and things are going together, slowly but surely. Between working 14 hour days at work, it's taking a little longer than planned but the money I'm making is more than helping fund this...

    Dipole for CB

the horizontal dipole antenna will be great for you if you're looking to talk directionally. They are directional when mounted horizontally, but if mounted vertically, they're omnidirectional. You could always make a stealthy antenna on the cheap that would perform well for what it is. for the...

in your opinion , what makes characteristic make a great flexible coax ?

considering the size of it and the fact that it is flexible, FSJ1-50A is a great cable IMHO. Power ratings in the 3k watt range average, and the fact that it's not much larger in diameter than mini 8 coax. With loss just below 1, it didn't take long for me to change over to this stuff in a...

in your opinion , what makes characteristic make a great flexible coax ?

I tend to lean more towards the Andrew FSJ1-50A for mobile install, kinda stealthy look in my opinion yet it handles all the power I need it to...

    and the fun begins

Doc, for the pieces I'll need precut, I'm getting them at $2.50 for a pair of sticks here locally. Sound too bad? I haven't priced anywhere else really, I've even thought of going acrylic maybe due to translucent color options...just unsure of the strength and durability.

    and the fun begins

Amidst all the high priced antennas on the market, and being that I'm generally broke after bills get paid, I've taken it on myself to build my own set of antennas. Granted most of the time I'll be running one antenna, but when I want to close off the back door I'm building a second. Solid...

    Cobra 29ltd classic

you'll also want to have a signal generator, oscilloscope, and ideally a spectrum analyzer. However, there are those that have done the work with what you have and just winged it. You'll definately want that thing to be retuned when you finish the install to ensure you are in fact on frequency...

    Help with 68XL

I've got a PC68XL that powers up, but no TX or RX, does change the indicator light and PA works as normal, but there's just no audio either way. Any suggestions?

    making progress: antenna

a little extra height will make a world of difference. I did a mount on the back of one of my old trucks for a base antenna with a 10' pole, then redid the mount with 35' to the base and man, night and day. Best of luck with your tests, let us know!
