He had the door open too so his swr was probably high adding to his readings, along with some reflect. Looked like the dk was really high too. Splatter splatter...
WOW...
I paid $20 for my Radio Shack meter many years ago.
Good enough for my needs and surprisingly the pep is fairly close, enough for gov't work!! It runs around 10% of bird bench test on my equipment into dummy load.
Otherwise the Autek would be the ticket.
Garage full of other power meters all...
I used to have r50 x0 but now I can only see r58 X0, so I guess I am good to go but I do wonder about the ohms increase. I did change coax and have tried several others to no avail. Same brand and also another made up from a different vendor. I use the ring terminal to attach to my predator...
I run the 440 into a straight 4 pill with 2879's. Hardly creates any heat with 150 DK.
Seeing 500 peak on a radio Shack meter. Amp did 620 with same radio on the bench into a Bird peak meter on channel to,very little harmonics. -45 db
I also run the same radio into a straight 2 pill with...

There is another antenna that is thinner and more flexible but the name eludes me now. been to long out of the rig. It comes in I thin 4 1/2 and 5 1/2 ft lengths. They are black and not wound on the outside like the silver loads...
My Cobra 148GTL Philippines model was the best I ever had. Really a solid radio and modifiable too.
Got into the exports after it and all have not been as good in the signal rejection dept.
My Stryker 440 isn't to bad but has lots of white noise with the incoming signal, the Cobra was clean.
I have found the MFJ 259b to be very sensitive picking up reflect. Antenna location on a mobile is paramount for all around excellence.
I have a 22" bottom shaft on a open coil antenna. I got my best readings by moving the coil up from 12". Also location of said antenna on vehicle plaus a...
Really a 4 pill is about all is need in a mobile cost effective wise.
Even a 150 would be sufficient. An 8 pill is starting to get costly to run and for what gain on the receive end! Just bragging rights really.
