You aswered your own question about "stories" on those lil amps, if your satisfied on a 5 year plan, lol. I have 2 Palomar's that ive owned for about 20 years now, and i bought them used. Some like Pepsi some prefer Coke, personally i like Faygo, lol.
Oh....no amp, i missed that, oop's, lol. Look into the Mosfet 520 mod, only 3 parts, trans, diode & res. that would get it close to a 959 peak watt's. But if the bug really bites him, remind him if he decides to get & run a box to lower the carrier.
Not much info on Astatic echo boards, thought maybe i would help the next guy. First, i bought a radio used and it came as a bonus inside, but removed & replaced it with a RFx2 Turbo i had laying around. The range of delay doesnt even compare but maybe a trucker would want it, lol. I tested it...
a 68 ohm res will give it a 2 watt carrier, use a 1000uf cap compared to the 220uf, gives better audio. Set him up with a talkback 100ohm res with a switch so he's not asking for echo checks constantly, lol.
Im also interested in the outcome, it would help others also. Dont give in that quick by taking your ball and going home, lol. I noticed no one said anything about your modulation or if you use a D104 lollipop, they can splatter big-time if the gain underneath is cranked all the way up, just a...
I think it's the same as a Cobra 25, just do the cap & ras mod with a 68 ohm res, should be around a 2w carrier. Skip the variable because it might be unstable, no big difference from a 2-8w besides running a linear, so set it at 2 and put the covers back on, good luck.
If you ever try changing the display, be very carefull with the double sided board, dont get it too hot, very sensitive. Use a solder sucker from Ratshack & a very fine tip solder gun, dont forget about the rx/tx led too.
Tough crowd, makes me want to never chime in anymore. If im wrong or off a bit, just correct me, im not a know-it-all. But dont quote me and make fun of me at the same time....GEEZ! If a Texas star Mod-V doesnt do over 100 watts with a good radio behind it, than something is wrong. I didnt know...
Its a 1 pill amp but commonly used to drive a very big tube linear, expect about 120 watts peak (not bad) Nowadays you can just get a high-powered radio that does 100-150w like a 2970, Stryker 490 & etc. Should stroke pretty good all by itself, i have a Palomar TX-50, 2w input, 20w swings 100w.
Does anyone know how to turn the antenna warning light into a Mod light on a Cobra 29 classic? Im getting a faceplate sticker to compliment all the changes ive done, one more would be cool before i order the sticker.
Robb just gave ya the procedure, why "send it off to a tech"? It sounds like a minor adjustment to me. Have you seen what some UPS or Fedex handlers do with boxes? But i can understand its a brand new radio, so send it back, but if you're eventually gonna do some mods or peak, why not adjust the...
20 years ago before the internet, having a Copper catalog was kinda mandatory, lol. Almost like a bible of radio gear back in the day. I bought a 99v from them in the mid 90's and had a extremely bad hum/buzzing sound, it was a couple parts touching the chasis (easy fix) but took awhile to...
I just read this entire thread and im still sitting here laughing. I just took down a Shakespheare big stick 3 i plucked from an old-timer and replaced it with an A-99.....HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!!! First off the Shakespheare is old technology, 23 ch radios, no tuning rings, 18 ft long, he told me...
I really doubt an angry neighbor is gonna let you in to take apart his speakers or his electronics, the church.....yes. What if you're in a tiny subdivision with many cookie-cutter house's, are you gonna pass out ferrite's to all of them? Im running an amp on my base with decent equipment but i...
"Thats not true" Whatever, thats your opinion. You must be the smartest one in the room, lol. Of coarse when you turn your box on, turn the mic gain down, DUH. Also peak & clip wannabe golden screwdriver tech's turning a radio full-tilt. But bottom line, after 20 years of CBing, ive tryied...
I say this everytime........If you're gonna run a linear in the house, it's gonna bleed on the neighbors stuff. Years ago i tryied everything but nothing worked, except one thing......dont run an amp in the house, lol. If you are a power monger (like me) get a RCI black base with built in...
I like using a mobile radio for my base and keeping the components seperate just incase something blows up, lol, easier to replace than a Turbo or 2995ish base radio. So.....im using a pair of speakers from an old Boom-box with 8 inch woofers, mid's & tweeter's.....makes the scratchy radio sound...
Much different than it's lil brother, you keep the final in the radio and dont have to strip parts out. Install a switch to even turn it off completely. Much easier install, pretty good watt's also. I was gonna buy an rfx-75 but now i changed my mind, few xtra bucks gets double almost tripple...
