Have you ever had a RANGER Radio Pulled from E Bay?

Ha...... Just put a 'healthy' bid on an HR-2600 on eBay, and then when I got home this afternoon, received THIS msg from Flea-Bay: "Thanks for your interest in this item. 161228919623 - UNIDEN PRESIDENT HR2600 10 METER RADIO AM/FM/SSB/CW +MIC SPEAKER COMPLETE SET NR We had to remove...

Cobra 29 LX WX receive gain adjustment?

Okay, sorry for delay... had to reopen the radio and document my findings: There are basically two (2) large cans and two (2) small cans, plus one (1) variable capacitor. The two LARGE CANS, labeled: L603 and L604 seemed to work to increase or decrease the GAIN of the WX channels. The...

What do you think of Baofeng?

I've found most of them, ESPECIALLY the UV5R's, to come under-deviated from the factory; this apparently so that the internal condenser mic will NOT pick up much background noise (say for example more than 2" away from the face of the radio.) Therefore, to get them to properly deviate, you...

Cobra 29 LX WX receive gain adjustment?

GOT IT (somewhat similar to OTHER 29WX radios), by way of a couple of adjustable cans (for gain) and only 1 (one) variable cap (for center freq. setting) on the small front board. WX now working properly.

Cobra 29 LX WX receive gain adjustment?

I've got a Cobra 29 LX that works perfectly, nifty little radio with a BOATLOAD of cool features, HOWEVER, (and maybe it's my base antenna), I'm not getting enough gain on the WX band. Where is the adjustment (internally) for WX freq gain, if any? Thanks:)

2 meters and murs antenna in one

For Vertical polarization: a broadbanded DISCONE will give you, 2m, MURS, WX, Marine, Police/Fire, Commercial VHF, as well as UHF possibly as high as 1.2 GHz and/or as low as 50 MHz, depending on brand/construction. For Horizontal polarization: an LPDA (i.e. Tennadyne or equivalent)...

    EBAY SELLERS

Unless it's BRAND spankin NEW in the box, over 75% of the time, at least with CB and Amateur Radio equipment, there is some sort of DEFECT that I needed to repair/alter/replace with everything I've ever bought on eBay. I'll give you my most RECENT example: New Old Stock Turner M+2/U hand...

    Interesting eBay Listing

Yeah, there was an EQ200 (like in the auction) and I 'believe' an EQ300 (3 band EQ) from Heil. I used that one, the EQ200 on my Drake TR-7 back in the late 80's with the Drake stock desk mic (looked like the 1104C, but no tone control.) Sweet sounding setup UNTIL the PIN diodes started...

Help needed for Cobra 148 NW ST

YES, that's THE one, HOWEVER, I believe it adjusts RX GAIN in BOTH ST on and ST OFF, so be careful WHERE you set it. For example, I actually had to turn it down enough that I couldn't get an 'S9' on my RX on AM (but I do get it on SSB) w/o turning the AM S-Meter pot all the way up. Then, I...

Help needed for Cobra 148 NW ST

Near the back, not far from the TX MTR VR pot. It is a VR pot that if you engage your Sound Tracker, you can set the level of it with that particular VR. I couldn't find a label number on the PCB.

Help needed for Cobra 148 NW ST

At last.... Radio is FINISHED. RX mod was a little tricky, as the TR14 it uses is a 2SC3194 instead of a 2SC1674. Couldn't find specs on a 2SC3194, but it defaulted to a 2SC3229. Either way, the NTE substitute for BOTH of those AND for the 1674 is an NTE107, so I used a genuine 2SC2999...

    MFJ 10m folded dipole?

Probably a pretty good monoband antenna. That's all I 'know'.... merely speculating.

Help needed for Cobra 148 NW ST

Update #2: Radio is now working GREAT, (thanks to YOU GUYS!), and have performed the following on it thus far: 1. Replaced meter and wheat bulb 2. Replaced channel selector 3. Replaced MMB8179 with MB8719 4. Performed TSB 10002 (R130 replacement).... which (again) I wouldn't have...

Help needed for Cobra 148 NW ST

Quick update: This morning I changed out the NW PLL MMB8719 with an MB8719 from an old side mic 148-GTL, and it completely FIXED MY PROBLEM. Just wanted to say: THANKS FELLAS!

    Noise Blankers that actually Work?

Recently I took some 'jazzing' from some fellow Hams when they observed that in addition to a VHF transceiver, I also run either an AM/SSB CB or Export 10/11 meter rig in my mobiles. When they asked me WHY, I said: "Because MOST of the HF Amateur gear out there has noise blankers that are...
