I crossed over the pa/exsp with resister but never heard any frequency noise or squealing from the external speaker. I do hear a buzzing sound on a radio turned on close by hooked up to my base antenna. If I touch the radio it goes away some. But the 55 is on a 100 watt dummy so could just be...
Also the wattage starts out where it does when keyed without the audio line plugged in, but plugged in it will climb slowly in wattage when audio is applied.
Where would you start to find what's happened to these radios Handy Andy? I have no scope now the look for noise so I'm a bit under prepared at the moment but have most other test equipment, think I even have a sinad meter here somewhere.
Hello Andy, good hearing from you again. It's a weird problem you can key it and turn the wattage up and try to turn it down without unkeying and the wattage doesn't drop, so what would make the line "short" or "spike" to cause the feedback like this, an open ground or short to ground? I know...
Haven't checked his pc for dc, I have a 10UF cap with the positive in the hole closest to the center of the radio and negative side of cap connected to the line going to the headphone port on the back I put in. My radio has worked fine for the last 3 months no problem with it this way. I do...
I have 2 direct injected galaxy 55v's one is mine the others a friends, I had made a 33hml direct inject and used it for awhile for this same friend and when hooked up to his desktop computer the radio acted weird on wattage, he wanted the 55 done the same way so I used it on my setup for a week...
Thank you guys for your help, c301 was shorted causing my problem. All modulation has returned and I appreciate your help and thanks again Andy and NZ8N
Any ideas on what is all connected in the audio circuits, want to re-cap the radio and have no good schematics online for this EPT295013Z board. You zoom in and it's all blurry. Still very low modulation with everything I've tried that everyone has suggested.
Hello nomad, I use an Astatic 600 watt, SWR, and modulation meter. Over the air talking with others in my area and on another radio there is barely any modulation coming through still, regular modulation is maybe around 30%, and peaks at about 83% with tone or whistle on the meter after...
Still not sure where to go from here, taking the center pin out of circuit of tr32 is like removing the modulation limiter. But modulation should peg the meter if removed I'd think. I can set the rf power to 20 watt dead key and will go up to 30 with everything on max now so I have 10 watts of...
Sorry y'all just got time to play around some. I just desoldered tr32 and modulation went from 40% before to around 82% after, but still with d104 and mic gain wide open not very good.
Checked the 4558 op amp before I left, 3 pins were just 0.3 volts over what the book says but voltage was reading about where they should be on TX-RX and voltage seems right.
It's fine NZ8N I got time to play around with this one some. I appreciate the help alot though, I have things to get done also. I'll be back around this evening to try some more tinkering with it.
Thank you Andy, I went ahead and just swapped out both Q56 and Q57 with new c945's I'm looking for a replacement that's high enough voltage for R240 now. I have some here in the pile somewhere.
