I agree, they do sound distorted in the true meaning of the word in SSB,and they don't function well in SSB mode , but In AM they sound great.
I just thought it was a waste of perfectly good loud radio to cut it's "cojones" just to run an amp that was made for a lesser radio, but with a...
" I would think that a Class C amp would sound muffled and distorted due to "clipping" The waveform. So, I think I would prefer a Class A or AB amp"
I also thought that a Class C amp would sound distorted. They don't sound distorted. "Distortion" means Bleed over in lay language...
That your opinion. LOL
I thought it made perfect sense, since he had a 98vhp. Why in the world would you want to turn down a radio like that.
If you want to run a clean Texas Star amp run it with a cobra 29ltd or 25ltd, but since he has the 98vhp any amp he runs it into will not be...
That's cool. Your building a box with MosFets. God knows why, but expermenting is fun.
I just thought you wanted a bigger radio.
Still the owner of the biggest Galaxy radio in the world.
550-600 watts PEP. Hope to stay that way for awhile.
Thanks. Unless I bring it down everytime I'm not using it. It would be simple to do that with these push up poles, since they have and easy way to put up and down; What a pain that would be.
I might have to look into something that would go up free standing.
Thanks for all the info.
If I got the 43ft mast. would guying it at 15' mark work, or should I guy the top section.
Also if it is made of fiberglass should I set it in cement or on another post.
Was thinking of putting up a Maco 103. Since the pole and the antenna only weigh 16 pounds apiece. Can I put the rotor...
I've found a fiberglass one that will go 43'. It starts out at 2" ends as 3/4" and it only weighs 16 pounds.
I also thought of putting up the galvanized top rail as a pole I've go some that are 21' in length, but didn't think it would be that sturdy. I didn't want to do any guying ,since my...
I would like to put up a base station and I've been looking for the easiest way to do this,of course.
I found some fiberglass push poles that I can afford, but I was wondering if I should use metal instead.
Would a metal push pole be better than fiberglass for any reason.
Will my...
Why use MosFets. When you could put in 4x2879's and get quite a few more watts out of it.
Owner of the World biggest Galaxy radio.
4X2879's 550-600watts. PEP.
Buy a 8 pill Class C amp. Davemade, Fatboy, Xforce and or worldwide. and be done with it.
Texas stars are for wimps. Drive the hell out of the these Class C amps and be heard everywhere.
4watt carrier into a texas star DX1600 LOL.
30 watt pep LOL. There are so many radios that do...
If you thinking of buying this radio. You might want to wait till the newer model is out in April. RCI63ffc4. It will be a much better radio for the money. IMHO.
It has 4 2879 pills in it and in my opinion much better than the MosFet version.
They're rating it at 400watts. I'm sure...
The radio should not exceed 65 watts deadkey on high. The mosfets can't handle to much more. That's what the Factory tech recommends.
The MosFets can't handle wattage like bi-polar pills. So if it came from the factory like this it needs a tune, or maybe the meter is wrong.
I had mine set...
Just look at a pic of the regular 98VHP. there is no difference. It's the same heat sink. The only difference is on the in side of the amp and all you have to do is look at 4300-300 amp. Pictures of this amp are on cbtricks.com.
I believe there's a pic on this forum of the 4x2879 4300-300...
They do draw more amps than 22. It's closer to 40amps on my amp gauge.
I'm sure freecell is correct on the numbers, he usually is. Although,I beg to differ on the wattage of the 1446's.
Isn't it 70watts at 54mhz.
I wouldn't assume to know what that is at 27mhz. Is it greater?
That...
First of all. Your wrong about the amperage draw of 4 x 2879's. Second My Galaxy 98VHP with 4X2879's does 550-600 watts. So the little 4x1446's is to small to compete. Not to mention that it is driven with small wattage to begin with. Your fooling yourself.
Your small amp does about 280watts...
You could do that. LOL I've already done it, and since I have changed the pills in the amp from the 1446's to the 2879's. You to can have the biggest GALAXY RADIO IN THE WORLD!
The amp on the Connex 4300-300 was initially designed for the 2879 pills.
Oh, wait. don't do it. It will void...
WOW!!! Is all I can say.
I never said the WORLD was out to get me. LOL
Just found it strange.
To bad for the ATTACK.
As to being important. LOL We're all insignificant. Even those who run forums.
