I think the 1622 is out of the question until summer. I looked outside my window this morning and noticed all the leaves from the tree outside are now gone. The 1622 would stick out like a sore thumb without the tree to hide the whip. What if I spray painted the whip black - would that hurt...
Did you have the counterpoise inside the apt or outside with the antenna? How was your antenna setup for DX?
I have a Radiowavs Bazooka dipole laying around which I will try along with the MFJ1622.
In terms of tuners, I have a MFJ 934 and I just ordered a LDG Z100 Plus.
The ebay listing said 16.5 feet on each side! Haha.
How would this dipole compare to the bazooka? It's cheap enough that I should just try it out.
My problem is I'm on the 1st floor of a 6 unit building (2 units per floor). Right across the street are similar buildings so I don't...
No way I could stretch out 32 feet worth of antenna inside my apt. I suppose I can string it from my kitchen, through my living room and then my bedroom but that's a bit much.. Haha.
Good info, as always. It's not easy being a radio enthusiast in NYC.
I figured I'd run the tuner behind the antenna to try to get the best match possible after tuning.
I've been playing with the idea of building a 11/10 meter loop antenna for my 1st floor apt but I'm becoming quite discouraged. I installed a SWL antenna around my bedroom by the window and can barely hear any 11 meter stations. Which brings me to the MFJ 1622. Anyone have any experience with...
I know where you're going with this but I think the possibility of that on the unlikely side. From what I read, everyone (govts) knows these stations exist and probably know where they are but there is probably a gentleman's agreement to allow all of them to operate. Supposedly, for a effective...
What else is there to SWL? I had bought my dad a Eton E5 years ago because I had broken his shortwave radio when I was a kid. He never used the E5 so I repossessed it from him last night. =) I got home, strung up the external wire antenna around my ceiling and heard, whole lotta not much...
The Cobra XL350 is great! The texas star puts out more power but the relay is really noisy, and the heatsink is at the bottom (not ideal for base setup). I may end up selling the TS.
I have most of the parts to build this loop antenna, just waiting for the barrel connector to come in. What do you all think my chances of TVI are? I think everyone in the building uses cable tv or satellite. I know at least 2 of the 6 units still have landline phones. =)
If anyone knows...
The chance of my moving to the 3rd floor is zero, I like my first floor apt. =)
I have a low pass filter which I'll be using to hopefully eliminate interference. :tongue_smilie:
Unfortunately, no. I may just ask my landlord if I could put something up on the roof, but 10/11 meter verticals are pretty scary looking to non-radio people.
I figured I'd try making one of these loops before stirring up trouble. ;) Now I remember why I became a ham, I could work the world...
Not sure how well that will work because the fridge is literally located in the middle of the building. At least if I run the loop in my bedroom, I'm near a window and at the front of the building. The mag mount wouldn't be more than 3 feet high if mounted on top of the fridge. =(
Crap, I forgot the window frames are metal, that's going to be a problem. Not sure I want to mount it on my ceiling. I'm definitely going to try this though. Will use the RG59. I'm sure I can pick up some from radio shack since I need to pick up the antenna wire also.
Do I absolutely need...
I live in a 1st floor apt of a 3 story building. I recently got back in to radios and have been getting on when I can from my parent's place, but that's not enough. =) How well do you all think this will get out?
11 Meter Loop Antenna
I was thinking of mounting this around my window. The...
