My first CB was a radioshack handheld 40 channel which my parents got me at about age 10. The first radio I bought myself was a RCI 2985DX. My first modded CB was a Uniden Grant.
Being off frequency is not such a big problem with a radio like the 2950! You can program a frequency split. Tune the person you're talking to in with the clarifier. Then hit the program key, then the split key and set it 1, hit enter and then hit the Split key again. It will show + or -...
I actually bought both of these amps but don't have either of them yet. I initially bought the TS 350HDV but then saw the Cobra on ebay and snatched it up too. My little RM KL200P is scratchy on SSB (my primary mode) so I need something clear on SSB.
I've seen both reviews on...
I hate the fact that you show me cool radios and I end up looking for them on ebay. Then when I don't find said cool radio, I end up buying something else. =P Thanks for helping me spend my money. ;)
I recently purchased a Philippines 148GTL off ebay and love it. I'm having my old Phil. Uniden Grant repaired too. =) These radios just work soooo well for what they are.
SUCCESS! After about 30 min, I had the 2SB817 installed. I think failure was caused by the transistor working loose from the heatsink. The washer was crooked and there was a air gap between the washer and the heatsink. I replaced the transistor, put the screw in, then soldered the screw to...
It seems the carrier balance was off from the factory then. After many slow fine adjustments to VR6, the problem seems mostly gone when using the radio with a noise canceling mic.
I don't mind if I do more harm than good to the 979. =) I'm learning and it's fun. I wouldn't attempt this on...
Sorry I wasn't clear. The amp works fine on AM, it's sideband that it has clicking problems. I set the minimum wattage to 1 watt DK on am and 6 watts on max. Before, I got rid of the clicking problem by turning VR6 which increased the wattage in SSB to keep the amp on when the ptt was held...
I was still getting the problem after I got the AM carrier turned off on the radio. It turns out it is partially audio related. It still clicks when using a power mic but fun when using the RK56.
Usually, if your setup is working properly, if you can hear them, they can hear you. I'm using a inverted-v dipole in my attic and I can make DX contacts with under 20 watts. Listen for stations calling and then wait for a pause and jump in. How you call them could make a difference also. If...
I think this would be true only if he said he wanted a CB radio and occasionally use it on HAM frequencies. Dealing with the band switching and channel jumps would be frustrating on HAM frequencies.
I'm using a Bazooka wire dipole in a inverted-v configuration in my attic and it seems to work pretty well for skip and decent for local. My SWRs barefoot are 1.1:1 and with my amp on, 1.3:1. =)
From the research I did, I found that the 2SB817 is a replacement for the 2SB754 and will last longer. Do you agree? This seems like a pretty straight forward job.
Unsolder and unbolt old transistor, apply new heatsink compound, bolt on new transistor, solder... Enjoy? Is that all there...
