    Bad Wreck = New Install

Why would I screw up a perfectly good whip when I have a continuously threaded rod I can shorten? Plus, there is no chance of cutting the whip too short using my method.

    Bad Wreck = New Install

This is the best option because then you can take the time to tune the SWR by cutting the length of the threaded rod (or by making the piece longer)...if you buy the extension rod (which can be bought locally as a Wilson extension), you are fixed on length. I actually had this exact setup in...

    Midland 75-822

Same here...I was looking for someone to even crack the case and see what, if anything, could be done...no takers. BellsCB has a youTube video of a before and after tune... Mine is expanded, 40, 40+, 40-. It works well for what it is, but like any other handheld; they aren't worth a hoot...

Dual final mod on a DX959? Thoughts?

The HP40 is a four mosfet radio...four IFR520s IIRC. Again, for me trying to run SSB; it never worked unless I was sitting somewhere...you drive in and out of the conditions too fast to make quality contacts. About the most you get is your numbers called and splat. Not to mention that most...

    Galaxy DX94 HEATS UP

As noted it shouldn't heat up when in RX... I had a Connex 4600 that would heat up really fast when talking, that turned out to be a really poor tune/hack job...

Dual final mod on a DX959? Thoughts?

In my case, I was more concerned about AM than SSB. SSB in a mobile is pretty much a waste of time anyway, unless you plan to sit somewhere; trying to make contacts while adjusting the clarifier and driving in and out of conditions is almost as bad as texting and driving. But I agree, apples...

Dual final mod on a DX959? Thoughts?

Based on what everyone recommended, it was better to spend my money on a new radio made to do 100 watts than try to get a type-accepted radio to do 100 watts. I ended up spending the $$ on a General HP40W, and have zero regrets. I really don't think the DX959 is that great a radio, that's why...

    driver outputs

What about the 2x2 some guys build!?!? I think the driver-style amps are there for those of us without radio enough to sufficiently drive a straight four pill...I saw this with my own junk, I could barely get 250 watts from a 4x1446 box, but could get the full 600 out of 2879x4@2879 box with...
