After dealing with this in a Dodge truck, I can tell you for fact a clipped/hacked/chopped radio will cause this...and that was just a Cobra 29. Some of the electronics are susceptable to ANY rfi, no matter what the band.

I still think you have a radio tuning issue, and no amount of shielding, bonding, or coax will help if the output from the radio itself is splattered.
Im running a 100 watt General HP40w in a 2012 Silverado with zero issues. But the radio was tuned correctly.

They did the same with Dodge service manuals a few years back...you could download these monstrous manuals for free at various websites and ebayers were burning the to cd and selling them for $50 as original manuals...the original manuals (on cd) were several hundred dollars from Dodge.

Drilling that first hole is the worst...after that, you'll drill any vehicle you own. I drilled a hole in my Silverado before it was a week old!!
I like having them hard mounted...no way they can get ripped off the roof, no wires running outside the cab, nice clean install. All it takes is...
I ran a 959 and TS350HDV, set the amp wide open, adjust with the varible on the radio...hopefully DTB set your variable up so that it will work with the amp. I was able to tell him what I was doing, so he set the radio up for that setup.
I want to remember I was set at about 50 watts swinging...
I'm running stock power and my nearest neighbor is probably 200 feet away...that might be the reason I had one on the last place since I was attached to the neighbor.
Ok, got a game plan...

So I don't have to look it up again, do I need an RF choke on a horizontal dipole? If I do, I might not have enough coax left to make one that is adequate.
Unfortunately I just cut off my rf choke...for this "vertical" install...grrrrrr. No, I haven't looked at it since the other day.
Still thinking about the next step...mainly how I can make something work without spending any $$. I'm thinking of acquiring a piece of channel to build the base...
If you're using it as a passive antenna, then experiment away...if you're intending to use an amplified system, you run the risk of damaging the amplifier. I have found that the passive system, without a direct connection from the antenna to the phone is pretty limited on effectiveness...but...
OK, maybe its me but I can draft up a response complete with spaces between paragraphs, hit submit, and it crams everything together as one long continuous paragraph that looks like garbage (looks like a two year old wrote it). <end of paragraph>
Is this a problem with the forum, or a problem...
Don't get me wrong, they definitely have their place...I have a "portable" setup that I can throw into rental cars, I use a W1000 because its easy.
But on my daily drivers they are, and always will be, hard mounted. The difference in performance is very notable...
When I ran an amp with my w1000 and later w5000, all it did was bubble the paint under the magnet. I hard mounted and have never looked back.

Yeah, that whole "feed being out four feet" is almost impossible for me. Looks like I'm going to have to look at another option. I don't exactly have the room to make it a horizontal now.
SWR on 1 was about 1.6:1 and just about 2:1 on 40. That means it needs to be shortened, according to the equipment I have available. I was just trying to set up a quick base with a spare Grant XL. I built a horizontal dipole using 102s at the last place and it worked phenomenally for...
