Getting out is pointless if you can't hear...the lilwil has its place, but its performance is lacking. Again, I made the step from a lilwil to a W1000 and then again from the W1000 to the W5000...the difference in receive between the lilwil and the W1000 was quite apparent.

The little wil is a pretty poor antenna as far as reception is concerned...it was night and day for me when I stepped up from a wil to a 1000.

Around here, the desirable stuff is usually picked up right away by the local CB shop (who also operates the local CB club) for resale...most everything that's left isn't worth looking at.

I had a Uniden Washington that I liked...it was an older radio, but worked well for a type-accepted deal. Another option would be to find another mobile and get a small power supply...I've got a Uniden Grant XL and a 14A power supply, and that combination works well also.

I've got a 2-pill (2x2879) behind a Uniden PC76XL... I drive it with the variable all the way down, about 3/4 of a watt dead key input, and 4 or so watts peak. That gives me around 50 watts of dead key and about 200 watts of peak from the amp. A two pill takes almost nothing to drive it...

Also check to make sure the antenna connector on the radio is tight. I had a 3300HP that squealed, and simply tightening the nut on the radio's coax connector fixed it.

Coming from someone who did a similar install, it will likely make the CB directional to the rear.

I'd be more concerned about the RF from the charging circuit...I can "hear" mine from over 100 feet away. And that's a single panel charging a single 12-volt battery using a smart charger.

The main problem with all the fancy impedance/reactance/etc. is that not many people have the access to (or money to obtain) the equipment needed to measure it...you can explain/discuss it until you're blue in the face, but its useless information if one doesn't have any way to measure it...
