Thanks, that is very nice.
I see a lot of very likely looking used radios in a few sites, including this one. Shipping is the killer. Plus double murder via our customs.
Additionally, converting from 120VAC to 220VAC is probably the least of my problems.
Agreed. I liked that 738's rx much better. This 440 is much more pleasant sounding in rx too.
I though I was imagining things at first and tried swapping my antenna between both radios initially.
Thanks for the elaboration guys.
I had a 738 for a few weeks and it really was quiet on rx but pulled in weak signals really well. I let it go because it had a warped shaft on the encoder which froze the tuning knob.
I tried to buy a 735 in excellent condition from a friend but he didn't...
Thanks, I'm glad it was a simple fix. This 440 is my main radio now. It does seem to do a better job in rx for weaker signals and noisy conditions.
I had a long QSO with an old ham who's mostly my elmer. He was using an 820 and he sounded really good to my ear. None of that wide band signal in...
Ah thanks for the reply. Seems like the issue was loose connections in the old power line. I changed the terminal eyes with new ones. Tightened the connections on the fuse holders and put a dab of solder on each end of the fuses.
That seems to have fixed the issue for now.
Oh, sorry I wasn't clearer. I mean I have another radio, an FT857D. If I listen to my audio from my TS440 on my FT857D, what kind of antenna do I need to have so I won't damage the radio I'm receiving on. Just asking because I know of a couple of guys who got damage on their radios that they...
Hhhmmm. What kind of antenna do I need to put on my radio to monitor? I'm concerned about damage to my other radio. I have heard about neighbors damaging their radios because of the proximity.
It seems that everybody on the ragchew channel either has an audio chain or modded mikes. Nobody sounds like themselves. :)
I'm just going to get an old mike an have it modded with an electret element and a pre amp. I'm keeping the Shure stock.
Thanks, I often have long QSO's and the fan...
Thanks. I should try finding a spare fan too. I do have a small electric fan pointed at the heat sink. With it on, the heat sink barely feels warm after long QSO's. Maybe that'll do in the meantime.
My little radio didn't seem to be 100% duty cycle and got uncomfortably hot during long ragchew sessions. This made me decide(seems like a good excuse too...) to get something that would stand up to long QSO's in spite of the heat here in DU land. It had to be an older rig so it wouldn't cost...
