I know the guy that builds these, he posts them all over the CB groups on Fakebook. It's just an Anytone Q5 installed in a cabinet.
He asked me about building a website for him once, then gave me the brush-off.
Needlebender 35 is what he goes by.
Personally, I could make one cheaper than what he...
After talking to a couple tech friends, they say that it wasn't RFI that caused the failure, probably just the age of the components in the radio. It's probably 30 or more years old, so it's likely. I'll be sending it off soon, for a refurbish.
To be clear...I had fired it up to run the amplifier, not knowing that I had RF coming into my equipment. The first time I keyed it up with the amp, it died. I think that's what caused the failure.
As far as I know, Jim Mc Knabb owns 307 Amps. No idea who this Nick guy is. That's not to say that you may be correct, as I have no idea what the depth of his knowledge is regarding building these amps.
Well, I have no idea what I can do about that. I am going to shield the driver section...
I purchased an RF choke from Palomar Engineers, with a ground lug, to get rid of the RF. As far as placing a shield over the driver stage, that's a great idea. I Will get another RF choke to place being the amplifier if need be.
After consulting a few techs, I have determined that stray RF is the cause of all of my problems. Have to do a few things before I'm able to use the amplifier. Like properly grounding my equipment and antenna, and get some ferrite beads to use on the feedpoints on the connections.
Again, much...
It receives well in SSB and AM. No transmit on SSB. It does about 30-35W PEP when it was working. I will get it repaired if I can find a tech to do it, and get the two non functioning switches (SWR and R.B.) repaired at the same time. It is a dual final radio, not MOSFET.
