Been using it for almost a week now. Killer audio, and the receive is phenomenal for an old CB radio. But the 858 has always been known for those attributes. An eventual recap is in the works, but I'm leaving it completely stock. Why mess with a good thing? :LOL:

Decided to go HiFi. Zoom R8 8 track recorder/audio interface/EQ with ever so slight reverb, and using an Electro Voice RE 320 studio mic.

Was lurking in my closet, and forgotten for many years. Other than a frozen S meter, which I replaced, it works great.

I have a Sirio Tornado 27 up right now, extremely happy with it.

I haven't been in the service menu at all. No limiters have been messed with. Yes, I sent it in a month ago for warranty repair, but he couldn't find anything wrong with it. So I'm pretty much stuck with a radio that's useless on SSB.

I haven't messed with the mic gain settings much. Factory setting is 25. I got it set at 20.

In having this issue with the QT 60, I'm reminded as to why I always used HF radios over a regular CB or import 10 meter rigs. I was very hesitant to buy it, now I know why. It's strange how it exhibits bad TX audio, yet no one can find anything wrong with it. Yet, it sounds fantastic on AM...

Any fix for crunchy/compressed TX audio on SSB?
