Whats all the big deal about this metal fence??? LOL
If it works where he's setting it, why change it?
You guys are going to drive the man nuts...LOL
Most antennas you don't even get markers. I
just don't see the big deal in this.
I set my SWRs on my antenna alittle above a metal
fence...
Make sure you coax cable and connectors are good.
I bought some metal whips off a place and
experimented with antenna length by cutting a
1/8- 1/4 inch at a time for best SWR. Experiment
with an old antenna if you have one. I bought 54 inch
whips. Don't want to be cutting that Littl Willie...
While driving yesterday i seen 1 remaining StarDuster
in my hometown. Top is broke off. Most people around
here have up Beams, A-99s and Imaxs.
My friend had a 5 element Hy-gain beam up years ago, but,
winds mangled it. Went to Jo-Gunn beam has had no
problems.
A-99 and Imax seem to do...
My statement above was about the static noise
difference between my Imax 2000 and my I-10K
and some other metal antennas i have owned.
Since your s-meter jumped from 7 to 9 when switching
to your Enforcer, i take it as a 2 S-unit increase.
Glad you like your new antenna! Happy Dx-ing and...
Ok, i just read your link comparing 2 different fiberglass
antennas. I can't comment as i only owned A-99-Imaxs.
Did you put up an Enforcer or another type of fiberglass
antenna???
Yes, the Starduster is a decent performer.
But, because it only lasted 3 years for me, thats
why it's not on my favorites list.
I was wrong before about the year. I bought it
in 1975 and it lasted until 1978-79.
I remember talking on my CB radio and seeing a
object flying by my bedroom...
Mine fell apart back in the 80's. Winds broke
the top and a couple of radials off.
We had about 6 stardusters owners in our small town, the
tops were broke off all them. I fixed mine and still to
this day have it down my cellar in storage.
Sorry, but, not one of my favorite antennas.
Glad...
I will put my verticle up to 120 ft and blow that
10 element away...LOL.... Just kiddin.
Of course your 10 element would do better
than our verticles. Hard to beat a beam.
Boy Bob85 it seems you have used alot of
different antennas. I have never used an
antenna with a coil on it. That's a huge coil
you had in your picture.
I'm personally becoming tired of putting different
antennas up and down...LOL...
So, my I-10K is up to stay...
I haven't used near as...
Hi Bob85,
We got a storm here in PA today that caused
50-65 mile per hour winds. My neighbors
metal groundplane broke like a toothpick.
Glad i just recently took my other antennas
down and put up the I-10K. It took the wind
like a champ....LOL..
Finally got the I-10k on the tower a few days ago.
Even running higher power of wattage i'm not
having any trouble with TVI,RFI to my neighbors.
What a god-send!
Talks great locally and DX. I'm very happy with it!
Also with its better construction of materials than
most other antennas...
