DX has been crazy today. Especially from the northeast. I live in Houston and have been receiving and transmitting to people from coast to coast from my mobile all day. I even got someone from England for a few minutes on channel 19 before the band got crowded. The way he was coming in sounded...
The amp is under the seat and the 40 degree A/C air is getting sucked into the amp. I was shooting skip today for about 30 minutes and it was nice and cold the whole time. Again I'm running it at 700 peak. More than some of you want, but almost half what it is capable of.
Maybe one of your neighbors started growing weed and you're getting interference from their grown light ballast?
I get a lot of static on my side of town in my mobile. It's worst at night and appears to be coming from the power lines. It's so annoying because a lot of the people I talk to only...
Funny you mentioned that. I just did a recording from my base and the audio is insane. It's twice to three times as loud as my Texas Star. I like to sound clean, so I actually brought my carrier up a bit. No wonder I have been getting so much more attention.
Get a base amp with a built in driver and call it a day. Those Texas Stars are power hogs and power supplies are expensive. You can find amps that are just as clean that will draw less power. If you're happy with your mobile setup leave it alone. In my experience people always end up wishing...
I love all the bait you throw out there to start a big argument and flame war. Sorry not taking it. I'm an emotionally happy person, not some old fart that probably hasn't gotten any from his wife in 15 years and who's kids probably never come see him. You are clearly a person that isn't happy...
Might I suggest How to Win Friends & Influence People by Dale Carnegie. It's a book written years ago that has helped a lot of people. One thing he taught was that being a know it all and telling everyone else they are wrong isn't a good way to socialize with people. SOME people on these forums...
I want to thank everyone for the help and suggestions. I decided to cancel the Xforce order and keep the Dave Made. I really don't think it will make much difference and will end up drawing more power. As it is with this class C at 1 KW, the RPM's on the motor is dropping when idle. Class B at...
I'm done discussing this. I want to keep this thread about the two amps. I'm not going to turn this into the same debate by people that dislike CBer's running power. I have read similar thread and it's the same thing being spewed by the same people. I don't care about what your 1960s radio...
I partially agree with you. You don't want to overdrive any amp for many reasons. Those Dave Made 1X4 however are made to run at 1000 in the corner. That is why they have a large fan on them and are built like a tank. 1200 is over driving it, if my meter is correct. 800 is what I generally plan...
I just hooked my swing modded Cobra 25 LTD Classic up and I'm getting 1200 watts pep according to my Dosy Center meter. My Lincoln II only does 13 watts pep with a one watt dead key. The Cobra does just over 20. I used the same meter to test with the Lincoln. SWR's are 1.5 with the box on...
Have a Dave Made M400 with 1 Toshiba 2879 driving 4 Toshiba 2879 that I just installed. It's doing about 750 and I'm getting good reports. The RMS on my meter is showing around 300. I though they may not be able to get the Toshiba's so I ordered the Xforce TNT T1200LD-M. It has two PP80's...
Texas Star makes some great amps and HY Electronics were the ones I bought my last one from. Be advised they don't include the mod in their price like Copper does, but they are still the cheapest I've found.
I've owned 4 Texas Star's. I have a DX 500 now with upgraded power wire and I can talk...
I have found some videos where people have the Lincoln 2 swinging from 2 to 30 watts. If anyone knows how they did this please let me know. It is likely more than just an adjustment. Maybe a swing mod using a capacitor on the finals? I don't need that much swing, but would like more than I have...
Like I said in my case it was the combination of the radio they were using and I was using. In my mobile running a Cobra 25 or my RCI 2950, I didn't notice it.
