I just found this thread, was looking at the AT5555, this seems like a nice radio also. I wish I had some locals on one, I would love to put it in my car!
I don't know is all the ways, but I know over voltage can do it. That is why I ask. The power supply in this washington took a dump, and a few caps exploded. After rebuilding the power supply and replacing all the caps (electro), it is still low on power, am an ssb. Ky was thinking one of...
Yes, the variable inductors. The the transformers. i will look through digikey and the like.
unit399, this is for the 8719 washington I have another thread about.
Thanks guys.
Thread from the dead I know.
I have a radio I think may have some bad Cans, The cores are good. I'll be looking into one of these metes I guess.
But, where would one get replacements?
Well, still never got this sorted. Wondering if one of the cans has something wrong with it?
All the transistors, driver and final are good. AM regulator. Channel kit has been removed, clarifier back to stock, aligned. Ugh. :crying:
I will be changing the mode switch too. The mod...
I have a washington 858, love it. it had the processor removed and didn't sounds as good. I had a parts radio and promptly put it back in. these guys know thier stuff and helped me out with mine.
As a side note, what gen are the washingtons?
I agree exit, make it stock and go from there. I do that with my stuff to fix it. It is easier to find a problem using the factory information if available, with a radio in factory configuration.
I have a washington with a 8719 pll I am chasing down a low power issue also. Wish pi could new of some help, but I didn't solve it yet.
I would.make sure you are getting you 12volts to the driver and final at tx if I didn't already do that.
Well, C183getting pulled didn't help. The mod meter still don't work. I have a mod switch, I may swap that out just to see if it helps any.
Also, i can find tr28, but tr29 is eluding me, lol.
Zman, I've com to realize that! I may just do the switch mod for the upper bands.
Unit399, I will try all those tonight. You are right about the screwdriver jockey also, lol
Also, i don't have a truth chart for all the transistors for this radio. So i don't know what voltages i should be looking for at TR28/9.
I'll post back with my findings.
OK. Here is the list of things I did.
Took out the expo kit.
locked up the clarifier.
alignment cause it was WAY off
1969 final
replaced all but 7 electrolytic caps
put a new transistor in tr32, this one was snipped
retuned the TX chain for max power
Set the driver and final bias...
