Another older thread but, I'd get the DX Engineering low loss RG8X any day over the Tram. Just my opinion.

My radio is a Galaxy DX 94hp dead low key at 2 watts and high dead key at 10. It modulates nearly 120 watts so, no problem whatsoever. 0 paint damage.

I had one of those Tram 3500's also and was an excellent antenna. Low SWR and a very good talker. Something happened and it finally got full of rain, water, and corroded really bad so I trashed it. If I ever bought another, I'd seal it anywhere it could possibly get water in it. Good luck with it!

Older thread but, I have the Larsen NMO27B on a 5 inch Tram Mag Mount. Only thing done was replacing original coax that came with the mag mount with LMR-240. Dead center on top of my old extended cab pickup it does an outstanding job. For it's height I'm really impressed with it. Just my 2 cents...

I have an old Philippine made Uniden 520XL that I hook up and use occasionally and that little dude talks pretty darned good for an old(er) radio.

Sometimes I mount my 102 ss whip on top of my old extended cab pickup dead center using a triple mag mount, heavy duty barrel spring and a tram quick disconnect. That's what I use sometimes when I'm parked to DX. In that configuration I get a 1.1 match all away across the 27 meter band. I just...
